Urbie Green's Medical Fund

$31,758 of $38,000 goal

Raised by 438 people in 13 months

If you are a fan of Jazz, you may be well aware of the artistry of my father, Urbie Green. He is a legendary Trombonist and has had a career that can only be compared to those top performers who came before him; a career that has inspired millions and brought joy to so many.

In his early days, he was a prodigy and went on the road to support his family during the Great Depression. After being scouted and joining Big Bands, he played with the likes of Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, and Frank Sinatra.

It is now, in his senior years where we find ourselves as a family, struggling to support him, as he has fallen on several medical challenges.

Over the years, it has become increasingly difficult to keep up with medical bills, as Urbie has had several health problems at the age of 91.

We ask, humbly, as a family striving to support him, to contribute anything you can to assist him in his later years.

Without going into detail, you can imagine at this age, there are many issues he is facing. Proceeds will help pay for doctor's visits, medical procedures, medication, physical therapy, assisted living, etc.

We ask, please, that you find it in your heart, to contribute to his well being, and help support the challenge of allowing him to remain comfortable in these golden years.

Thank you so much for your generosity!

Hello Everyone,

An exciting update: This past Wednesday, August 8th, Urbie turned 92 years young! Here's a recent photo taken of him as he buzzes one of his classic Urbie Green model Jet Tone mouthpieces.

If you've got some stories about him, or messages for his birthday, please send them along!

And for a health update, Urbie is doing pretty well. His legs are weak, so mobility is challenging. He occasionally has trouble recalling certain recent events, but otherwise is doing well.

We are still in need of any contributions that can be made to help towards his ongoing healthcare.

Thank you so much for your continued support!

Hello Everyone,

A quick update: As many of you know, Urbie will be 92 years old in August, and has had several health problems. Since some of you have reached out in concern, here are some more details. A few years ago, Urbie suffered a minor stroke, but recovered almost 100%. He also was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and has had bouts of dementia. Last year, he came down with a severe case of Shingles which he mostly recovered from after a few months, but it left him quite weak and he lost much of his mobility in his legs. Currently, he is being cared for at a nearby home and remains comfortable. We are doing our best to afford him the best care while respecting his wishes for privacy.

We continue to ask for donations as his unique healthcare needs are quite expensive. Please feel free to share this GoFundMe page and thank you again for all of your support!

An update for all who have so generously contributed:

It is May 2018, and Urbie is doing well as he is being cared for at a nearby home. He has his health challenges as he is almost 92 years old.

The price of this care remains high as Pennsylvania is near the top of healthcare costs. While the fundraiser has been successful, we still need as much help as we'll can get.

Thank you for your support and helping spread this message. Our family is incredibly thankful!

Here now is a fantastic video of Urbie at the age of only 36, working his magic. What a treat this is that is has been restored. Enjoy and thanks for your continued support.
