UofT Team to go to NCTTA Nationals

$540 of $2,500 goal

We are seeking extra funding for our University of Toronto's competitive team to participate in the NCTTA National Collegiate Tournament. The NCTTA is the largest intercollegiate Table Tennis Competition in North American, and this year, we are excited to have assembled a very competitive team for the NCTTA competition. The team is led by players like Aaron Wang, Xuebo Li and Anqi Luo, all of whom are veteran players at both national and international levels. With their experience supplemented by the talent of our other new members, this iteration of the team proves to be the strongest one yet, currently ranking 3rd in the entire North American League. Hence, we have very high hopes of bringing home a trophy from this year’s NCTTA Intercollegiate games in March (25-27).

However, as this year’s competition will be held in Texas, travel costs have also increased exponentially for our team players. As bus travel is no longer feasible, we have no option but to fly, with plane tickets costing almost $700 per person due to the weak Canadian Dollar. As a registered club at the University of Toronto, we only get very limited amount of money from UTSU each year (~$750 last year) and because of that we've actively reached out to sponsors and engaged in aggressive fundraising. Howard Ma, our previous president, has generously set us up with a sponsorship  opportunity with his dental clinics, whereby introducing new patients to them, we are able to get some additional funding. (if you are interested in this, see link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1UWuJk2ag-qx7bCDR3Dl7rB8m9yZWqjLrG_-jMPbqTdA/viewform) We’ve also reached out to our other previous president, Chris Wang, whom is now on the executive board of the NCTTA committee. Unfortunately, we are still short on the travel budget. Currently, the total cost we are looking at to send all our players (~10 players) to Texas is approximately $9000 (airfare + registration + accommodation), and at this moment, with all of our facilities, we are able to subsidize approximately $2500 of that. This puts a tremendous pressure on our players as they will have to pay a lot of money out of their own pockets, and we do not want this to prevent us from going to Nationals. Our goal for this campaign is to raise an additional $2500, so that we can subsize up to $5000 of the total cost for our players. This puts the amount that each player would have to pay at a reasonable ~$400.

Hence, we would like to humbly ask for your support in sending our players to Texas. Any funding, no matter how small the amount, will be greatly appreciated, and it will go a long way in fulfilling their competitive dreams. The club would not be where it is today without your many contributions, and we hope you can once again give us a chance to do the school, and you, proud.

Thank you very much for your support.
