There is a growing number of women who are struggling with addiction/alcoholism in the US. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA):

2 in 5 women drink alcohol.

4 million women are heavy drinkers.

2.5 million women are alcohol-dependent.

1 in 10 pregnant women drinks alcohol, and

15.8 million women have used illicit drugs in the past year.

Most of the time, drinking or drug use is a way to dull pain, or try to forget past abuse, or other hurts. By sharing personal experiences of abuse, abandonment, alcoholism and addiction, and how these issues were overcome, we are helping to address these issues, and reduce the stigma and shame that women alcoholics/addicts may face.

What began as a written ministry has now become a speaking ministry. After speaking before some smaller groups, it became apparent that women need to hear this message and know that there is hope and help.

There have been numerous women who have expressed gratitude for bringing this issue to light and have been able to get the help they needed, or simply have the support they needed to address the issue.

By addressing the issue of women and abuse or addiction, it gives women the freedom to not only speak aloud their issues, but also find support and help. It is comforting to hear that other people have been abused, or struggle with addiction. It empowers other women to speak out and share their struggles, and to help each other. It enables women to voice their issues, and seek help.

Hello friends! I have my second speaking engagement next Saturday, but cannot afford to order books until Friday. In order to order ten books and pay expedited shipping and receive them in time, I would need $175.00. That goal could be reached:

Yesterday was my first actual speaking engagement in front of people I didn’t know, and by the grace of God, it went well. I am speaking again this Saturday, and am in need of books to sell. The Umbrella of Fear and Doubt

I have been wandering in the desert now for a few months, parched, dying of thirst and praying for rain. I have walked around with an umbrella of fear and doubt over my head, completely oblivious to the rain that God has graciously poured out on me.

In our Wednesday night Bible Study “Anxious For Nothing” by Max Lucado, the main theme comes from Philippians 4:6-8.
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (drip drip)
Do not be anxious about anything,” (drip drip)
“in every situation, by prayer and petition, with THANKSGIVING, present your requests to God” (sprinkle sprinkle)
“the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (sprinkle sprinkle)
“finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. (splatter splatter)

Then IF:Gathering weekend was here and I walked in to the pouring rain. Still I held my umbrella of fear and doubt over my head, afraid to get wet.

I have just taken the next step in the ministry God has called me to, and I have published Volume One of my book and am almost finished with Volume Two. Why am I so scared? Because things aren’t progressing as quickly as I thought they would. Because maybe it's harder than I thought it would be. Because maybe I thought I trusted God, but I won't let go of everything. Then I begin to have second thoughts. “Did I really hear God?” “Is this really His will or is it mine?” “Do I really think I can help other people when my life is such a mess?” “How can I tell people about all the horrible things that were done to me and the horrible things that I did?” “How can I afford to do this and support my family?”, and my all-time favorite: “WHAT IF I FAIL?”

And the rain beats harder on my umbrella.
“God has not given us the spirit of fear” (pound pound).
“but of power (thump thump)
“and love” (thump thump)
“and a sound mind (BOOM).

So where do all of these fearful thoughts come from? They come from the one who wants to see me give up and fail and fall; the one who doesn’t want people to know that it doesn’t matter what we did in our past. It only matters what Jesus did for our future! The devil – Satan – the lord of lies, the king of confusion, the ruler of rebellion, the duke of doubt, the prince of powerlessness, the emperor of evil, and the master of mediocrity.

Then suddenly, the umbrella can’t hold back the flood anymore, and I realize, as the tears fall that I cannot do it on my own. I need the living, relevant and powerful Word of God. God’s Word is not meant as just an outline or aid for whatever book I am writing. It is an outline and aid for life. It is literally the Words of God breathed into hands and bled onto paper. It convicts. It corrects. It comforts. It calms. It calls us and commands us. It catches us and carries us. It centers us and counsels us. It celebrates us and cures us. It challenges us and changes us, and it completes us.

When we go to God (in prayer AND Bible study) with our fears, He will calm them. He will take us in His arms and say, “Don’t you know that I love you for who you are. I made you with all of your flaws, and I have a plan for you. I don’t use you in spite of what you have done or been through, but because of those things. I use you – an imperfect, flawed and broken vessel – to let my light shine through you. I use you to set a spark and fan the flame of the gospel until it spreads like wildfire in the wilderness. I want to use you because I created you and I love you more than you can ever imagine. I want to do exceedingly abundantly more than you could ever ask or even think. So be strong and courageous, because I am always with you!"

"If God is for us, who can be against us? ...in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Inspired by the book of Ezekiel)

I am weak and weary, and my bones are dry.
I thirst for more but am never satisfied.
My soul aches—I know there is something better.
I long for freedom and to be unfettered.

God took my hand and then He said,
“Do you believe I can raise the dead?”
“I believe You can,” I replied.
“Help my unbelief to subside.”

“Trust me, my child, and take my Hand.
Be still and know that I am who I am.”
In the quiet, a rattling sound was heard
as He breathed life and my spirit stirred.

Then my grave was opened, and I saw light.
He defeated the darkness, death, and night.
He reached down and grabbed my hand,
then He put my feet down on dry land.

My hope is gone no longer,
and my faith is made stronger.
I am alive again—His spirit lives in me.
I am His and He is mine for eternity.
