Diagnosis

On November 30 last year, Joe was diagnosed with an Anaplastic Astrocytoma brain cancer on his thalamus. While there are treatments available and doctors can abate the growth for some time, there is no cure and eventually the tumor will return.

Guided by his medical team at Swedish Hospital, Joe began an intense five-week radiation and chemotherapy treatment in December. The physical side effects from the treatment are severe, including extreme fatigue, a compromised digestive system and short term memory loss.

Joe’s neurologist, Dr. Jerome Graber, says tumors like his typically begin regrowth within two years. But he also stressed that this figure is an average, and that Joe has some great things on his side: he's young, he's healthy (despite the cancer), and he tolerated the radiation and chemo treatments exceptionally well. Joe will continue to have MRI scans every two months indefinitely. After his last scan on April 27th Dr. Graber encouraged Joe to let go of the averages, to live his life and do what he loves.

What We’re Doing
We are coming together to raise funds to help Joe heal and recover from months of difficult and hard work from radiation and chemotherapy. Today, only a portion of Joe’s healthcare insurance is covered by his insurance and for all alternative treatment he must pay 100% of the cost by himself. Our united support will strengthen his battle against the cancer, aid his recovery from radiation and chemotherapy, and demonstrate just how powerful we are when we come together. Let's start now.

Our Goal
We are looking to raise at least $26,000 in this campaign and everyone is invited to join in, no amount is too small!

The funding will allow Joe to:

·  Begin alternative and holistic treatment such as Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) and a cutting-edge
IV Therapy treatment based on the most up-to-date research on various nutrients and pharmaco-botanical compounds.

·  Health insurance cover no cost for alternative treatment, funding will help to cover these costs in
addition to improve and expand Joe’s current health care plan.

·  Take time off from work to focus all his energy to heal his body while keeping and maintaining his home
and studio.

·  Explore additional western and holistic treatments in the US and beyond.

·  Travel and spend time with his family in Ohio.

A Pop-Up Show at Traver Gallery
In addition to the GoFundMe campaign, an art exhibition was held at the Traver Gallery in Seattle on July 28th, 2017.   An amazing collection of over 40 artists presented their art for a Silent Auction, and 100% of the profits went to Joe. Artists included: Lino Tagliapietra, Dale Chihuly, April Surgent, Nancy Callan, Ben Moore, Dante Marioni, Martin Blank, Richard Royal, Kiki Smith, Preston Singletary and many more.

On behalf of Joe and friends, thank you for your support.
