---------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the past 3 years, UMRio has provided a rare safe space of hope and encouragement for over 300 young people in Morro do Castro (an isolated favela in São Gonçalo - RJ) where they can access new opportunities, develop and pursue aspirations, and build confidence in their own identities. You can hear from our young participants and team through this youtube video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D13QpdSTGjI).

UMRio’s holistic 4 pillar methodology (click here to learn more: http://umrio.org/index.php/methodology/) has won international awards and been the subject of educational research of Brazil’s foremost universities. While we have achieved important results over the past few years with no external funding, this year we are working to guarantee the programme’s sustainability through a one-off fundraising drive that will run between now and April 2017.

To keep the programme running and help create more opportunities for young people in Rio de Janeiro, we have set an ambitious target of securing £15,000.

We hope to raise a total of £15,000 which will secure the programmes continuity for the next 12 months. In these 12 months UMRio is looking to:
· Guarantee continuity of current operations
· Strengthen our mentoring programme, by providing 100% of our 17+ year olds with personal mentors who will help them study for national university entry exams;
· Secure general health check-ups which have been largely focused on dental care
· Secure sustainable funding streams for our 2017/20 Strategic Development Plan, which includes creating a permanent UMRio Centre, 3 salaried positions, and designing a model that can be replicated beyond Morro do Castro.

Your support and donations are crucial to the continued success of UMRio.

Please support this appeal as best you can.

Thank you.

Hi All,

Any donations you c an provide to sponsor the event would be hugely appreciated! Donations would enable the continuity of the programme and would allow us to continue to support the children and community.

Thank you!

Hey all,

An exciting development has come about in our UMRio party, with a fourth member, Sophie, becoming part of our fundraising team!

She's getting straight down to business, and along with Leanne has booked herself in to do another Tough Mudder in September. Obviously they didn't pay any attention to how hard it was for Scott and me first time round, and evidently the boys are tougher because we did it first...

We're just over halfway to our target currently and it would be absolutely amazing if we could keep pushing on. The girls are doing their Tough Mudder after we get back, so if there are some of you waiting for proof before you donate you may be disappointed, but a quick look at the link below will show the challenges they'll beat and that your donations will definitely be hard earned!

Thank you so much people, your continuing support is amazing for us!

All the best from the new-look UMRio reps,

Will, Scott, Leanne and Sophie
The squad united for the first time!

Hi everyone,

We've been pretty quiet on social media recently (shock horror), but Scott and I are bedding in for our exams and Leanne has finished hers so fundraising has taken a bit of a back seat...terrible scenes.

Anyway, this page is still running and going a bit quiet. The UMRio reps in Brazil are amazed at what you've been able to help us achieve, but we can still do more. Our target remains hugely ambitious but we're still confident we can make it with your help.

So please, take a moment today to visit the UMRio websites and find out about the amazing stuff they do. And then, donation or no donation, you'll have learned about something really quite cool today.

Obrigado!

Will, Scott and Leanne

Hi everyone,

We're halfway there (cue Bon Jovi)!! Thanks a million to all the incredibly kind people who have donated so far. Scott and I continue to recover from Tough Mudder, my Portuguese is (allegedly) up to 17% fluency and Leanne is busy smashing her finals - we are a dynamic unit...

However, we can continue to do more, and hope these messages can continue to inspire some generosity and curiosity into what we are going to get up to. Please, please, please have a visit to our page ( www.gofundme.com/UMRio2016) and be amazed at this awesome charity.

The sky's the limit for charities like UMRio, but it needs your help to get it there. Any and all donations are so so gratefully accepted.

Much love,

The UMRio 2016 volunteers!
