Ty Ty Whisler Medical Fund
From what the doctors are saying, this is not going to be a quick process. Ty's brain tumor is considered to be "high risk" which means he will need a lengthy treatment, more hospitalizations, possibly more surgery, ongoing physical and occupational therapy, home schooling, and possibly other services which are yet unknown. The medical costs from just the initial ER visits, surgery and ICU stay have already reached into the tens of thousands of dollars. There is no option for radiation or chemotherapy treatment in the Tahoe area - so that means Ty will need to travel to either the Bay Area or possibly farther across the country for weeks at a time to receive the best treatment and care available.
The implications of all the medical bills, travel to treatment, loss of wages, and other associated costs are already becoming a huge financial and emotional burden for the Whislers.
If you can, please help by making a donation to Ty's Medical Fund. All the money raised will go toward paying the bills - so Ty can focus on fighting his cancer and getting better!
Thank you SO much! The Whisler family is incredibly appreciative of all the amazing support they have received from friends and family near and far.
Quick note and disclaimer required by GoFundMe: All the funds raised through this campaign will be under the direct control of Jillian Whisler and will be used for the benefit of her son, Ty Whisler.
The Whisler family wants you all to know just how incredibly grateful they are for your words of love, support, faith - and for your donations to Ty's medical fund.
As many of you probably have already read on the Caringbridge site - Ty started his first round of chemo this week. It's a bit like jumping into the great unknown right now. The only way to really know how Ty will tolerate the chemo drugs is to just wait and see. It's all very scary for Ty and terrifying for Jill and Alan. Jill and Al are characteristically handling it with amazing strength and grace.
It helps a lot that Ty has an entire team of doctors, nurses and other technicians at Stanford all working very hard to make Ty better! There have been a few scheduling snafus, the traffic is always a nuisance to deal with in the Bay Area, but the people at Stanford are just wonderful - so kind, intelligent and caring. Both of Ty's main oncologists are very cool ladies. They both provide a really calming and incredibly optimistic presence.
So here's the reality check: radiation was tough, but the next seven months of chemo are going to be very tough. Please continue to send your well wishes, prayers, jokes, notes of love and support!
Also - please note that even if calls, emails and/or text messages aren't always returned - your words of encouragement ARE very much appreciated.
You are such an inspiring community! Thank you!
You might have noticed that we changed our funding goal from $50,000 to $75,000. It's definitely NOT because we're feeling greedy - it's just that we are realizing as more time goes by all the treatment costs, travel costs, loss of wages, etc. are just really REALLY expensive. We are SO incredibly appreciative of everyone who has contributed to Ty's Medical fund! On behalf of Jill, Al, Nate, Syd and Ty - please keep the momentum going. Share this link if you haven't already. There might still be someone out there who wants to reach out to help.
Thank you so very much!
I can't believe it has only been 2-weeks since we started this campaign and we've already raised nearly $43,000!!! What an amazing group of friends, family and other caring people who don't even know the Whisler family!
We are SO close to our goal. If you haven't done it already - please forward the link to your friends, share on Facebook, etc.
I've got a little secret (well not so much of a secret anymore). GoFundMe is sending us one of those HUGE checks where you can fill-in the amount of money you've raised. Hopefully it will arrive this week so we can bring it to the Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser on Sunday - and enter in our goal amount of $50,000!
And a quick reminder about the Spaghetti Dinner - it is THIS Sunday, October 16th from noon-4pm at the Minden Meat & Deli (1595 Hwy 395 in Minden, Nevada). Bring a folding chair to sit on, come ready to eat spaghetti, soup, salad and garlic bread AND wear your best and wackiest Tie for Ty Ty.
Quick update on Ty - Al, Jill and Ty are all in the Bay Area this week. They spent yesterday doing a lot of prep work and tests at Stanford. And today was radiation treatment #1. Jill will be posting an update on CaringBridge soon - but I can tell you that Ty has been an absolute trooper. Obviously a bit scared, but handling it all amazingly well. All the doctors, nurses, child life specialists, and other staff at Stanford are amazing and really helping Jill, Al and Ty through the entire process. Keep your prayers coming.
Goodness Jill I am so sad that you and your beautiful family are in this battle. PLEASE know more people than you even know are sending you prayers. Love to you all
