Two Houstonians Displaced by Harvey

$3,145 of $6,000 goal

Raised by 34 people in 5 months
Me and my brother have been displaced by Hurricane Harvey in the west area of Houston near Katy. We are temporarily sheltered by FEMA and are trying to find a place to move to and replace a small portion of what was lost by the flooding.

We're raising funds to cover unexpected moving costs, the replacement of one uninsured vehicle, and a portion of other significant losses like clothes, personal property, etc.

We don't know the extent of the damages and we don't know if we'll be able to access or retrieve any property for the next 1-3 months, but we do need to move and replace a vehicle ASAP. Apartment renter's insurance is not going to cover any property loss. Total financial impact to us could range in between $6,000-$40,000 to get us back to where we were.

The soonest we could get funds it would help - right now is a day-to-day challenge to get basic needs while also trying to cover uninsured medical costs and find a way to relocate. We will be withdrawing the funds rapidly, probably on a daily basis, because the costs of relocation and temporary survival are hitting us continuously.

Hello to all of our generous supporters.

I'm attaching a picture to this update that means a lot to me. This is a picture of the keys to our new apartment in Northwest Houston.

For several days we were completely displaced, living hour-by-hour. At a number of points, it looked like we might not be able to stay in Houston at all and were starting to research other cities. The scramble for new places to rent was crazy for everyone, and it was even harder to do so without a vehicle.

But thanks to the generous support of everyone who donated to our campaign, we managed to find a new place and move in two days ago. Last night I had my first decent night's sleep in two weeks, and that's due to all of you.

My brother's had a rough time dealing with all of the chaos but now having a more stable place to stay for the long-term has made his situation so much better in the past 48 hours.

Thank you all again. We're still facing major challenges - but today is a lot more hopeful than we were when we started this campaign.

-Milton
