Tural's Year of Healing

Tural Erel, a 17 year old Varsity swimmer, honors student, and DECA Nationals qualifier has suffered a spinal cord injury. If you know Tural, then you know he is one of the most compassionate and outgoing members of our school and community!
Tural was determined to work hard so he could attend and swim in college and ultimately make his family proud. He always had a goal and a plan to achieve his dreams!
Sadly, things took a drastic turn for the worse for this young man. The day before the start of his senior year at Glenbrook North High school, he was volunteering at an event to help incoming freshmen make a smooth transition into a new school setting. A fun event turned into a tragic accident which left Tural with a broken neck and a damaged spinal cord. Thanks to the quick response of his school mates, saving his life and the medical team with guidance of the neurosurgeon, Tural was able to undergo surgery on his spinal cord.
The accident will prevent him from doing everyday things such as attending school full time and will require him to have many years of therapy. He suffers bad spasms on his right side. Walking is a struggle. There is physical pain. There is pain medication.
There is no longer any talk of swimming competitively.
We want him to use the upcoming years to fight for his recovery, rest and recuperate so that he can once again return to what he does best - being a student, an athlete, a leader, a role model and a remarkable courageous young man.
This gofundme account has been set up by Tural’s friends, in the hopes of alleviating the financial toll this tragic accident has taken on his family.
We are raising funds to help Tural and his family survive the coming years. Not only will they need assistance with medical bills, but it's important that Tural be allowed to heal his body and spirit without the additional burden of financial need.
