Tiny Homes Australia , a tiny home building company based in Melbourne’s East, has teamed up with Anchor to raise funds and build two tiny homes, which will be used as flexible and transportable emergency housing for those in need.
Anchor is an independent, not-for-profit organisation serving some of the most vulnerable in our community through services including homeless support, foster care, and community education. They have a need for temporary accommodation and the services to help get people off the streets and on the path to a safe and stable living.
Homelessness is a growing issue in our society, with more than 22,000 Victorians and over 100,000 Australians living on the streets. We believe in the power of tiny homes as affordable and flexible housing options that could be used to serve our community.
Tiny Homes Australia will build two tiny homes, which will be handed over to Anchor to be used in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne to house those in need. Our goal is to raise $100,000 to fund these two homes, and to provide a comfortable short term living situation for those who would otherwise be sleeping rough. This money will be spent specifically to cover the direct costs of building and supplying the two tiny homes. Once the campaign reaches $50,000 the funds will be withdrawn to build the first tiny home and once we reach our goal of $100,000 we will begin construction on the second tiny home.
These homes will be set up in the Outer Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne on allocated land that Anchor are supplying. Anchor and Tiny Homes Australia worked together to design the house plans, ensuring that they will be functional and practical builds. A rendered image of the proposed home design can be seen below. You can also download the full plans on Tiny Homes Australia’s website.
