I am Elsa Waithe, a producer and frequent collaborator with Mo Fathelbab, owner of The Experiment Comedy Gallery and all aroud amazing human being.
In the 6 months that The Experiment was running in Williamsburg is was named one of the NYC hottest comedy venues, was Brooklyn's only dedicated comedy space, and built a solid reputation for producing diverse shows, including Affirmative Laughter. Mo Fathelbab has shown an unwavering dedication to showcasing many of NYC underrepresented comedians.
The Experiment has been a safe haven for women and minority comic. As a proud Muslim American Mo never hid his politics but brought it into his business philosophy. In December 2015 he started the "Donald Trump Special", allowing Muslims free entry.
Unfortunately due to neighborhood conflicts, the housing board in the building where he was located decided they no longer wanted The Experiment housed there. The venue was forced to close as of March 27th. As a result many amazing shows have had to cancel, or be put on hold. Mo's first concern in all of this was not for the financial loss of his business but the loss of stage time for so many terrific comedians.
He is now in the process of relocating what has become a favorite venue of comedians and audience alike. I am here because The Experiment, and Mo in particular have become a comedy home to me. The space has allowed me to grow as a comedian, and allowed me to connect to other comedians in a collaborative way. This is a story I have heard echoed from others in Mo's "Experiment Comedy Family".
Now is the time that he needs our help. He needs $5000 to cover relocations costs at a new venue, to bring back the sexy padded wallpaper we have all come to identify with The Experiment, and to keep comedy accessible.
We need this money raised before the end of April so that The Experiment can be back and making you laugh on May 1st.
