“I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.” ―Maya Angelou

Fatima is a 15-year-old female in Gambia, West Africa. A typical day for many girls her age would consist of taking care of the house: cooking, laundry, cleaning, fetching firewood, taking care of younger siblings, and farm work. Very important duties indeed, but nothing academic. According to an international supplement written by the Washington Times, “In The Gambia an estimated 73 percent of the women are illiterate and the majority of the female population is rural based and engaged in agricultural production” (February 1999).

The Ashdon Jazz Academy has been working with young females for the past three years and have recently begun delivering the’ I know who I am’ girls programme. The programme aims to aspire  young ladies women lacking in self-confidence, by helping them recognise  and embrace their skills, talents and power.

The Gambia Girls Gift Trip aims for the young women we have been working with to simply GIVE BACK and share what they have learnt to enhance more disadvantaged young ladies in Gambia who have limited educational opportunities or CSE/FGM victims. We aim to bring up to 15 young ladies to Gambia in February 2020 as part of the Gambia Girls Give Back Trip

Gambia Girls Gift Back Trip Purpose:

·         Girls will be able to give back all that they have learnt to a much needed  female youth community

·         Girls will be motivated to make a difference in the world and gain a sense of global accountability

·         Girls will begin to learn and understand another setting and gain first hand experiences of another culture.

·         Developing and create friendships amongst themselves and with the Gambian community

How will this be achieved?

1.     The trip will involve the girls designing, and creating self-affirmation gift toiletries packs that they will distribute to the local females who have been affected by low self-confidence, CSE and FGM.

2. During Gambia trip the girls will have the opportunity to deliver an affirmation and soap making session with a group of identified young Gambian girls.

3.     The girls will also be involved in helping to repair a local Gambian school for children who have special needs.

Transporting our young ladies away into a new setting and away from their familiar surroundings will mean they will have to rely and get in touch with their own self for resiliency, encouragement and preservation.  The Ashdon Jazz Academy is a firm believer that young women united are powerful and together they can create social change as well as raising awareness of importance issues that affect young ladies home and globally.

We would really appreciate your support in helping our young girls experience a valuable opportunity and learn a powerful life lessons in giving back.

Warmest Regards

How it Works
  1. You are donating to PayPal Giving Fund UK, a registered charity (No. 1110538), which will email you a receipt for your donation and claim Gift Aid where eligible.
  2. GoFundMe’s platform is free. The charity will typically receive the funds from PayPal Giving Fund within 15-45 days of your donation if the charity has enrolled (or 90 days if the charity has not yet enrolled). Unlike other platforms, 100% of any Gift Aid will go to the charity as well.
* In very limited cases, a recommended charity may cease to meet PayPal Giving Fund's legal or other eligibility requirements. In such cases, PayPal Giving Fund will reassign the funds to a similar charity, and (wherever possible) seek a new recommendation from donors.
