The Benitez Family Fund

$60,881 of $50,000 goal

Raised by 505 people in 19 months
Created January 12, 2018
On the night of the massive Montecito floods, my dear gardener's  sister, Faviola Benitez, her two sons, husband and little 3 year old niece, Kailly Benitez and her mother, Marilyn Ramos, were horribly impacted. Her husband and youngest son were rescued and taken to the hospital in critical condition, and Faviola has not yet been found. Sadly, little 10 year old Jonathan and 3 year old Kailly Benitez, perished. The family is bereft and unable to work with the overwhelming loss. I'm reaching out to see if there is anyone out there able to help them with their massive hospital bills and living expenses to get them through this devastating time. Please keep them in your prayers. I have known Alex and Santiago Benitez for three years.

It has been almost a year since the devastating Montecito Debris Flow that took the lives of Fabiola Benitez, Jonathan Benitez, Marilyn Ramos and Kaelly Benitez. Since that time, the small group of survivors (Victor, Antonio and Ian) have done their best to pick up the pieces of their lives, heal their battered bodies and try to imagine their lives without their family members.

Your generous donations have been a huge help in their ability to build back their landscaping business (vehicles, tools and equipment), purchase personal items (furniture, clothing, household items), and get back on their feet and working again. They could not have made this journey without your support.

The Benitez Family thanks every one of you from the bottom of their hearts!

When I first initiated the fund for the Benitez family, I was hoping to raise a few thousand dollars to help them -even a little -through their tremendous struggles. Only two weeks later, today marks the day that the fund has reached its goal of $50,000. Your thoughtfulness, prayers and generosity have been more than a beacon of light during this dark time. The funds are going to go to the two brothers who remain in the hospital and who have each lost a child and spouse, as well as to the grandparents who are caring for baby Ian and his needs as he recovers - in a cast-from his injuries. The family wants you to know how thankful they are for your tremendous support, and as a fellow Montecito member of the community, and someone whose heart is also broken for the loss of so many, I too want to thank-you.
Kindly, Lori Lieberman
