'Seyi Will Change Lives With Dance

Donation protected
For as long as I can remember I have always loved to dance, it has been something my bidy just naturally knew what to do, and dancing has been the one consistent thing in my life no matter what happened or where I went

It has taken me a long time to take a chance and believe that I deserve for my dreams to come true. When I was growing up in one of the inner city parts of Birmingham, UK, I didn't have any models of success apart from prostitutes and dealers driving around in nice cars and living in comfortable homes, with luxuries I could only dream of at the time

As a child I took numerous dance classes, and bursed dreams of becoming a famous performer, travelling the world in shows of breathtaking beauty. The dance form didn't matter, all I knew was that I loved dancing and that's what I wanted to do (either that or become the first female Prime Minister of England)

Life, however, had other plans for me and aged 13 I became pregnant with my first child, my daughter who came along at a time, which although was less than ideal, probably saved my life

I stayed at school, and got my GCSE's thanks to loving support from my parents, family, school and local services, but my dreams of dancing slipped away as I lost confidence and belief that I deserved for my dreams to come true

Aged 17 I had my son, and battled through a long term abusive relationship. All the while these dreams to dance still circulating my heart but never becoming a reality I descended into the life of a high functioning addict, numbing my sadness with drugs, alcohol and other self anaesthetia methods (such as shopping, sex and working too much)

Fast forward 20 some years, and here I am, having been accepted on to a pioneering course to train to be a dance therapist. I have been sober and abstinent from drugs and alcohol for over 7 years, after embarking on a personal transformation quest to find out who I truly am in 2007, and ultimately falling in love with myself again, releasing all the old shame and childhood wounds that meant I stopped believing in my dreams

The course costs over £3,000 and is in Bali, so there will be travel and living costs involved which will bring the sum I need to raise to at least £5,000

There have been studies done that prove dance is a highly effective and powerful healing modality, and it is the perfect tool I have been looking for to use with people who have experience significant trauma and abuse in their lives. I will combine the workshop model I learn with the self love coaching I offer, and work with people (initially women, but I do have plans to expand into mixed group work, and men only sessions) who have had similar life experiences to myself, including domestic violence, emotional and sexual trauma and teen parents

In 2013 the Sun newspaper featured my story of recvery from sex addiction in their paper, after which time I received numerous enquiries from women all over the world who wanted to work with me and recover from their own sexual and emotional trauma, which has led them to having dysfunctional relationships in varying degrees. I would love to bring the dance therapy to such women, especially those in Nigeria who reached out to me asking for help

Undertaking this endeavour take a considerable amount of money, therefore, as part of the amount I am seeking I am asking for contributions towards travelling to Nigeria, settinig up costs and sponsoring the cost for some of the women to receive the workshop series for free if they are not in a position to pay for it themselves

I truly believe I can change peoples lives using the dance therapy course, and I would love if you can help me do so
