I am Lisa Sicilio, the President of the Texas School Nurses Organization . As an organization, we strive to enhance whole student wellness in support of health and learning by strengthening school nursing practice. Our goal is to get contributions to school nurses in need as quickly as possible in order to help rebuild their foundation as they care for our most vulnerable population. The funds we raise here will be donated to school nurses for their clinics if those have been damaged. In some cases, we will donate directly to the school nurse who may have suffered personal loss. We will be withdrawing the funds to a TSNO account earmarked Texas School Nurses Relief, enabling us to send a check directly to the district campus or to the school nurse who has suffered loss. Thank you for your kindness!
Hurricane Harvey, and the ongoing disaster in Texas, have made a profound impression on all of us. Our thoughts are with those who are still struggling with the aftermath of the storm, and our hearts ache for the loss, pain, anxiety, and hardship this storm has caused our fellow Texans.
We now know Harvey has impacted over 1 million students in hundreds of school districts. And nearly every district or campus, there is a school nurse who may have suffered a personal loss, or whose clinic may have been damaged. Reports are slowly coming in, and these losses for Texas school nurses, both professionally and personally, will undoubtedly be significant. Nurses tend to be quite resilient: However, taking care of basic needs like supplies for clinics and clothes to come to work in will have a definite impact on that continued resiliency.
On a more positive note, we are also deeply touched by the innumerable acts of kindness, the selflessness of friends, neighbors, and the rise-above-it attitude that is the hallmark of our society. Texas School Nurses Organization extends to you our most sincere thanks for your enduring, steadfast dedication to our students, and to our fellow school nurses. During this time of rebuilding, we ask for a donation as we support those who have experienced loss during this extraordinary time.
