Join C.R.A.F.T in an effort to send a San Jose School in need to a Tech Museum Field Trip!

Despite living in one of the wealthiest and most expensive places the world, more than 160,000 kids in Santa Clara County attend schools characterized as economically disadvantaged—many of them in Downtown San Jose, and a few of which score within the lowest tier of all the schools in California. This means that nearly 200 thousand of our students miss out on the educational perks their tech hub hometown has to offer them.

Before the “Silicon Valley” existed, San Jose was a city known best for its diversity. Although science and technology have brought so many resources, knowledge, people and wealth to the Bay Area, the immense rise in the cost of living has created a bigger gap between the privileged and underserved. In honor of the March for Science , C.R.A.F.T. would like to help bring down the socio-economic barriers to education by starting locally, and sending the kids at these schools on a fun field trip to the Tech Museum in San Jose. Let’s combine efforts in any amount we can for the people who need it most in our community.

The Tech Museum of Innovation has a Field Trip Scholarship Fund that enables kids from low-income schools to come to The Tech for a day of hands-on learning in science, technology and engineering. $40 per student covers the field trip, transportation to-and-from the museum, and a hands-on science lab or workshop in areas like physics, chemistry, engineering logic or bioengineering, in addition to exploring more than 100 exhibits such as Social Robots, Cyber Detectives or BioDesign Studio. $1200 funds a 30-person class. Since most schools have 2 classes per grade, our goal is to send both.

The Tech has been a valued staple for our city since the the 1980s, a landmark for anyone seeking a glimpse of the most inventive place on Earth. In 2015, they were awarded the National Medal for Museum and Library Service , the highest honor a United States museum can achieve.

The museum’s mission is “to inspire the innovator in everyone.” Please donate whatever you can to give these kids the access to be inspired by the science and technology around them!
