HandsOnSports Foundation 2016
Talamancan Reserva Trip, Costa Rica
www.HandsOnSportsFoundation.org
This is our major journey of the year where we will bring uniforms, shoes, shorts, socks, balls, mini-goals, protective head gear, goalie gloves and other equipment.
In addition we will bring 5 pallets and 4 large boxes of medical and dental equipment to the reserve, more than $40,000 worth of supplies generously donated by Henry Schein.
Our campaign will raise funds to help send our first ever cargo container by sea to the Port of Limon. We will load the pallets here in Cleveland, ship to North Carolina and then on to Limon. The materials will be stored until we arrive, rent a truck and transport them to Talamanca for distribution.
About Talamanca ~
The medical supplies will be used to set up mobile clinics in multiple locations throughout the jungle.
Each clinic location will hold a gathering where the people of the community will receive the sports equipment, shoes and other supplies and games will follow. The staff will be housed at the Finca Educativo 'Educational Farm' in the village of Suretka and we will meet with the elders of the Bri-Bri and the Cabecar and discuss future 'campos' and needs of the communities throughout the reserve.
Thank you for your contribution to our most ambitious mission to date. Stay tuned for reports on the journey!
Families walk to the clinics and then wait patiently for the rare opportunity to have their needs met by professional medical staff volunteers.
Dental care and hygiene needs are also addressed as civilization and processed foods encroach on the jungles indigenous populations of Bri-bri & Cabecar.
Vaccinations and other medical issues are dealt with in the best possible manner as the portable clinics provide much needed services to children & parents.
