John Swanger was once known for robbing banks, selling illegal white powders, pool hustling, criminal biker gangs, and bouncing at  strip clubs. You’ll never guess what he’s doing now.

Swanger’s life story—one of childhood trauma, crime, addiction, drug abuse, incarceration, and miraculous freedom—is one you’d read in a book or see in a gritty crime drama. When many people hear of his incredible testimony, their first response is, “Are you serious?” He is. In fact, his story has already changed hundreds, if not thousands of lives, and he wants to use it to change even more for God’s glory.

A couple years ago, Swanger wrote a book titled, SHACKLED: Confessions of a Teenage Bank Robber. It chronicles his childhood and the events that led him to his life of crime, and sheds light on the fulfillment he was searching for along the way. It describes to the reader his desperate attempts to do ANYTHING to fill the void he felt he had within him, while also detailing his arrest and first two years of incarceration.

Currently, this book is part of Swanger’s ministry, Unshackled Spirit—a non-denominational Christian ministry that focuses on bringing Jesus’ unwavering love to those living in prisons, jails, and other detention facilities. The book has been given to over 900 people throughout several states, as well as inmates in the Federal prison system, juvies, and drug rehab lock-ups. Countless prisoners have come to the Lord through the Unshackled Spirit ministry, and even more have had their lives changed forever through the life changing testimony shared in SHACKLED.

There’s a next step, however, and this is why it matters:

People now need to read the rest of the story. Swanger’s new book, UNSHACKLED: A Story of Redemption, will pick up where SHACKLED left off. It will start at his third year of incarceration and recount many stories from prison, including the miracle of his final parole hearing at which he was released. It will be a story with a resolution you never saw coming, and it’s guaranteed to leave readers thirsty for God’s love and transformative power in their own lives.

Today, Swanger is a clean and sober, Jesus-loving singer, song writer, and pastor residing in Gig Harbor, WA. He has dedicated the rest of his life to ministering to the incarcerated, feeding the homeless, and serving with countless other ministries throughout the United States.

His story is one that has the power to renew minds, hearts, and spirits, through God’s amazing grace.

The need:

Producing, publishing, and printing a book, however, come at a high cost. John Swanger is teaming up with an editorial team in order to further develop and enhance what he’s written and help him get the book into print. This is where you come in.

Funding is needed to help bring John’s story to life. If you have a heart for those who are incarcerated, ex-convicts, those struggling with addiction, the homeless, or simply feel called to help turn John’s story into the incredible ministry tool that it is, then please, consider giving a gift to help make UNSHACKLED available.

Donations in any amount will help aid in the book’s development. Please know that 100 percent of all funds raised through this site will go directly toward the costs in producing, publishing, and printing the book.

Thank you so much for your time, generosity, faith, and prayers as John follows this calling on his life.
