Kaylan and her husband Cainen were involved in a car accident on Route 120 in McHenry on May 2nd. Unfornately Cainen did not survive the accident.  Our heart goes out to Cainen's family at this very tragic time. Cainen was a wonderful young man and will be missed immensely. There was nothing not to like about him, he was always smiling and happy.  He was a wonderful man who loved his family and his wife.

Kaylan suffered a severe brain injury, and broke her pelvis.  She is not conscious and the family is bracing for a long recovery time that may or may not include continuing care, a rehabilitation center, and additional therapies.  She is currently in a long term care facility where she is receiving various therapies to help her to wake up.  The family has been informed that healing her serious brain injury will take lots of time, most likely months.

My name is Karen Barba, I own Katco Development in Mount Prospect.  We are a small construction company, a family of people if you will.  Kaylan has worked here for 11 years.  Many of the Riemann family members also work here at Katco.

We have set up this account to help provide funds for Kaylan during her recovery.  Due to all the uncertainty about her future, we want to insure that Kaylan has the opportunity for any type of extended care that would be needed,  and to support her during her long road to recovery when she wakes up. Your generous donation will help cover medical bills, living expenses and overall treatment that she may need moving forward.   All of the funds collected on this page will go directly to an account that has been set up by the family to aid in her treatment and supprt.

Please continue praying for Kaylan & Cainen's family. We are again overwhelmed with the outreach and support and thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!

Sincerely,

The Kaylan Bach Riemann Family
Karen Barba and The Katco Development Family

Hello friends, I know it has been a while since I updated you on Kaylan, and I apologize for that. Kaylan continues to go to rehab in Wheeling. She will most likely be released sometime in February, and her future from there is a question mark right now. She may look into alternative treatment to heal her brain, and possibly donate her time at an animal shelter. She is still struggling with speaking at this point, she told me that her mind goes 100 miles per hour, but it comes out of her mouth at 20 miles per hour. Her memory still has huge holes in it. She is still living with her sister Kelsey, and has starting doing her crafts that she has always loved to do, knitting, crocheting, and making jewelry. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you!

Hello friends. I was able to spend some time with Kaylan last weekend. She is now living with her sister Kelsey. She travels everyday in a short bus (teased her about that) to the RIC facility in Wheeling for rehab. They work on a variety of things to improve her mobility and brain function. It is a long day for her, leaving at 6:00am and sometimes not getting home until 5:00pm. She is in Rehab with mostly older people that have had strokes and are trying to return to a normal life.

She is enjoying living with Kelsey, she has her dog Nelly with her, along with Kelsey's two dogs. She also enjoys interacting with Mason (Kelsey's son) on a daily basis.

As far as her condition, she is walking without the help of a walker, she tries to walk without her cane, but sometimes needs a shoulder to hold onto. She does move slow, but she keeps going. He right leg is giving her some problems, it hurts her all the time, and sometimes she cannot control its mobility the way she would like. The doctors are looking into possible nerve damage, and she is scheduled to have some tests the end of the month. She is wearing glasses, which corrects her double vision, and aids her in her balance. She hates her voice, which is labored and she has to force herself to speak. The vocal cord is still healing. In regard to her memory, I can only say that it is kind of all over the place. She can remember people, but not all events. She remembers everyone's dog's names, but not if the dog is still with us. She remembered an employee that worked for Katco, but did not remember that he left 8 years ago. If you ask her what she did in therapy yesterday, she doesn't remember (but then again ask me what I did yesterday and I would have to really think!).

She needs your positive thoughts, prayers, and uplifting comments right now. As you can imagine she is not feeling like her cheery self , she's pretty low. She has always been a fiercely independent woman, and now she depends on others to take care of her. As she mourns for Cainen, she has huge holes in the memories of the life they had together. She feels as if her life has been taken from her, and wonders why she is here. So please, keep her in your thoughts and prayers. We need her to keep fighting to get better, and not give up.

Hello friends. I had the opportunity to visit with Kaylan this weekend. She greeted me at the door with out a walker! She hugged me tightly and was very excited to see me. We sat and talked for a while, and what impressed me the most is that she remembered our last visit, and our last conversation, which is huge, because even though I have been to see her numerous times, she has never remembered our last visit. The conversation with her flowed easily, which is an improvement. She is now wearing glasses, which she told me corrects the double vision in her left eye, helping her to stay balanced when she walks. She is going to the rehab center Monday through Friday, and she told me that she does not like it, but she understands that is is necessary for her recovery. It is a long day for her, the bus picks her up at 6:00 and she gets home at 4:00. While at home, she cannot be alone yet, but she is looking forward to that changing, as she desperately would like to be more independent. She again would like me to express her gratitude to each and every one of you for your help that you have given, and your messages for her speeedy recovery.

Just a short update on Kaylan for you.

Kaylan is enjoying being at home with her mom. Her weekends are being spent relaxing and spending time with family. During the week she goes to a day rehab center, where she is working on her motor skills, balance and coordination. She still has memory challenges, but her brain is still healing and finding new pathways. When she talks, her voice sounds different, but the cute sarcastic wit that we all know and love about her is still there.

She again wanted me to express to all of you a big thank you for your generosity and all warm wishes for her full recovery.
