Support Kaylan in her fight
Kaylan suffered a severe brain injury, and broke her pelvis. She is not conscious and the family is bracing for a long recovery time that may or may not include continuing care, a rehabilitation center, and additional therapies. She is currently in a long term care facility where she is receiving various therapies to help her to wake up. The family has been informed that healing her serious brain injury will take lots of time, most likely months.
My name is Karen Barba, I own Katco Development in Mount Prospect. We are a small construction company, a family of people if you will. Kaylan has worked here for 11 years. Many of the Riemann family members also work here at Katco.
We have set up this account to help provide funds for Kaylan during her recovery. Due to all the uncertainty about her future, we want to insure that Kaylan has the opportunity for any type of extended care that would be needed, and to support her during her long road to recovery when she wakes up. Your generous donation will help cover medical bills, living expenses and overall treatment that she may need moving forward. All of the funds collected on this page will go directly to an account that has been set up by the family to aid in her treatment and supprt.
Please continue praying for Kaylan & Cainen's family. We are again overwhelmed with the outreach and support and thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!

She is enjoying living with Kelsey, she has her dog Nelly with her, along with Kelsey's two dogs. She also enjoys interacting with Mason (Kelsey's son) on a daily basis.
As far as her condition, she is walking without the help of a walker, she tries to walk without her cane, but sometimes needs a shoulder to hold onto. She does move slow, but she keeps going. He right leg is giving her some problems, it hurts her all the time, and sometimes she cannot control its mobility the way she would like. The doctors are looking into possible nerve damage, and she is scheduled to have some tests the end of the month. She is wearing glasses, which corrects her double vision, and aids her in her balance. She hates her voice, which is labored and she has to force herself to speak. The vocal cord is still healing. In regard to her memory, I can only say that it is kind of all over the place. She can remember people, but not all events. She remembers everyone's dog's names, but not if the dog is still with us. She remembered an employee that worked for Katco, but did not remember that he left 8 years ago. If you ask her what she did in therapy yesterday, she doesn't remember (but then again ask me what I did yesterday and I would have to really think!).
She needs your positive thoughts, prayers, and uplifting comments right now. As you can imagine she is not feeling like her cheery self , she's pretty low. She has always been a fiercely independent woman, and now she depends on others to take care of her. As she mourns for Cainen, she has huge holes in the memories of the life they had together. She feels as if her life has been taken from her, and wonders why she is here. So please, keep her in your thoughts and prayers. We need her to keep fighting to get better, and not give up.
Kaylan is enjoying being at home with her mom. Her weekends are being spent relaxing and spending time with family. During the week she goes to a day rehab center, where she is working on her motor skills, balance and coordination. She still has memory challenges, but her brain is still healing and finding new pathways. When she talks, her voice sounds different, but the cute sarcastic wit that we all know and love about her is still there.
She again wanted me to express to all of you a big thank you for your generosity and all warm wishes for her full recovery.
God bless you all through this fight, my daughter(Holly) and Kaylan began their friendship in middle school we have been watching and prayng for her she is ever in our thoughts. Great Job Kaylan!
