Andrei and his family lost their home and all their possessions in the Santa Rosa fire this October 2017. Andrei had been with us in Europe, playing violin for our Viva la Música concert tour. His wife Rozalia had to confront this fire and loss on her own, with only the support of her adult son who uses a wheelchair. In fact, she had to get both herself and her son Emanuel to safety and abandon the special van just purchased to safely transport Emanuel. To add to their challenges, Rozalia was admitted to the hospital with a gall bladder attack on October 16.

We are Gail Whipple, of Belmont California and Pam Nissley, of San Francisco. We we were on tour with Andrei in the Baltics on October 10th. While waiting for a concert in a church, we  overheard him on the phone comforting his wife. It was clearly an unusual phone call, and when we asked him about his distress, he told us the story, and then he had to leave our tour early to go home and face this terrible loss with his family. But we had to do something to help!

We started this gofundme page for those who would like to contribute to Andrei's family and their recovery from this fire. While our contributions cannot change what they have to go through, they can perhaps lighten the load and be used for imminent expenses of hotel, meals, healthcare, clothing, personal needs and rebuying household goods as one must to recover from such a catastrophe.

I spoke with Andrei on October 16th and he is very touched with the support of this campaign. As of October 17 he is now named the beneficiary according to gofundme rules and I believe he will receive the bulk of these funds 2-5 days from now, but if more donations roll in, those will be released to him as well!

I will write an update each time I hear from Andrei. In the meantime, thank you so much for your generosity.

Good news from Andrei who writes, “I am starting a ‘new life’ in Arvada, Colorado, near Denver. We bought a new house here and we'll move in sometime in January. I'm already missing all my friends in California and hope to be back some day. Best friendly regards, Andrei”

I'm not sure if you all see the comments section of gofundme. In case not, Andrei posted this a few hours earlier:

"I am overwhelmed by the generosity of all my friends. I would like to thank every one for your precious support both material and spiritual. And the Phoenix will rise again!"

Gratitude for your generosity, blessings of peace and happiness to all this (American) Thanksgiving season. Here's a lovely little demonstration video of what happens when we each play our part in the music of life.

Hi generous friends. Here's an update from Andrei.

"We are making progress day by day with our recovery.
Rozie is getting stronger and ready to travel with my son to my daughter's home in Arvada, CO. It will happen probably next week sometime.

I am still dealing with documentss and insurance issues. Once I'm done, I intend to join them at my daughter place and stay there until the property clean up is complete. Meanwhile we are still staying at our Santa Rosa hotel."

Wow. We have raised almost $20,000 to help Andrei and his family recover from this unprecedented firestorm. Andrei is forever grateful for this incredible support during this years-long recovery process. He wrote a brief update yesterday reporting progress for his wife - and some of the "new normal" that is his life for the time being:

"We just move a couple of days ago to a different hotel in Santa Rosa. Rozie will be back at Kaiser today to remove the surgery stitches. She is getting stronger every day. My son is still at Novato Healthcare Center.
I'm still running around to various County offices to recreate our official docs."

I found this picture on the web of one of the lots in Andrei's neighborhood (Berry Brook) as of October 10th. Every lot in Andrei's neighborhood looked like this. With homeowners still trying to get official documents together, you can see why, in an earlier update, Andrei said it may take at least two years to recover.

Your generosity has been a bright spot in this dark time for the Bostans. Thank you for making a difference.
