 MILLINOCKET, ME
The girls from Stearns High School in Millinocket, Maine won't be able to play soccer at Lee Academy this year unless they can raise $3500 to pay for buses, drivers and fuel.  The shutdown of much of the Maine paper industry has and continues to hurt our towns and our kids. Please chip in so these kids can play. Thank You

Last year I saw our high school cheerleaders standing on corners asking for donations for their team. I was upset. Why? Because a teachable opportunity was lost. Instead of teaching these girls to earn the money, they sent them out to hold out their buckets and expect to be paid. In retrospect there was a lesson, however; entitlement serves no positive purpose in life. I disagree with this kind of fundraising. I've bought lots of cookies, wrapping paper, calendars, pizzas & raffle tickets over the years and was happy to do it.

Would have been a Class of 1976 graduate. I have spent my life in education and have a strong belief that a positive athletic experience can be life changing. Good luck with the campaign.

Proud to support as an alumnus and father of two soccer girls. Tremendous sport and we wish the Stearns girls the best on their season!
