Support a greener footprint - donate to community energy!
The Southern CORE (Community Owned Renewable Energy) Fund is an initiative of the Energy Innovation Co-operative Ltd (EICo-op). As a non-trading co-operative in Victoria, we support communities to install renewable energy or energy efficiency measures, helping to cut their power bills to put vital investment back into their core activities. This allows sports reserves, community and childcare centres and conservation parks to concentrate on what they do best - provide improved community and environmental services!
With a fundraising target of $250,000 in 2017, the money donated will help build the Southern CORE Fund, which is a perpetual revolving fund. Community groups can apply for part donation and part no interest loans (yep! No interest!) to fund solar panels, solar hot-water or energy efficiency projects. Loans are paid back to the Fund from the energy savings to support the next project, meaning every dollar donated is invested over and over again, it’s brilliant! The more money we raise, the more community support we can provide!!
We aim to fund five projects in 2017 with two projects already lined up, including solar panels and LED lighting at Bass Recreation Reserve, to enable the netball, football and cricket clubs to spend more on their sport and less on electricity; and installing solar panels at Foster Community House and heat mats at the Foster Swimming Pool allowing the pool to stay open for longer across the season. It’s a win-win!! Happy people, happy communities.
The EICo-op is a non-profit, volunteer organisation working with partners through the ComMET Roundtable to assist communities with researching and deciding on fit-for-purpose energy systems, making this challenging job easier.
Community energy helps groups to take control of their energy supply, reduce emissions and create jobs in regional communities. It makes social, environmental and economic sense.
