Sophie's Medical Fund

Sophie's passion has always been horses. Born a talented equestrian, she graduated from Minnesota State with an equine science certificate and pursues horsemanship any time and way she can. Unfortunately Sophie is on a different pursuit for the time being.. Before she can get back in the saddle, she needs to get back on her feet.

On June 21st, 2016 she took a horrible fall. Initial xrays showed two broken bones in her knee and torn ligaments, including the ACL. Because the facility Sophie was originally seen at was unable to do surgery she was transferred by amblulance to the nearest capable hospital. Sophie received her first surgery and spent a few days in this second out of town hospital with her family before they took her home laid out in the back of her dad's SUV.

Sophie  was able to spend a couple days at home with the aid of her wonderful family and boyfriend, but the care she needs requires professionals. After her second surgery Sophie remains in the trasitional care unit at Regions Hospital. Being completely unable to bend her leg she requires nursing assistance with virtually every personal care task. On top of her pain from the surgeries Sophie struggles to breathe due to being bedridden. She will remain in the hospital until her third surgery is completed and into recovery.

As you can imagine this terrible accident has been expensive for Sophie and her family. Sophie had just recently started working for a new company and bought her first car, but wont be able to return to any sort of work for atleast 6 months. Her parents, sister, boyfriend, and friends are ever supportive. Sophie's Medical Fund is a way we can help The Shafers get Sophie back on her feet.
