Hey All,

It's been a while since we last updated but things continue to move forward with the SCVA. We're holding our first annual New Year's Bash on Sunday, January 24th at Revolution Brewing (2nd floor) from 6-8pm in Logan Square! In addition to a night of food, drinks, and fun we plan to offer a silent auction of items generously donated from Chicagoland businesses. The list of items is getting good, and space is limited, so sign-up ahead for tickets here:

http://tinyurl.com/scvanewyears

Buying early means you also get a discount, as tickets at the door are $40, but only $30 online.

In addition, we've got some happy news for the holidays and year's end. The IRS sent a letter information us that our 501c3 application has been approved and backdated to the beginning of the year! That means all of your generous donations are tax deductible! Check out the note attached.

As always, we thank you for your continued support. If you're looking for a last minute donation year end please consider digging a little deeper for the SCVA. We're still working to meet our bills and have a long battle ahead to get through to next season.

Happy Holidays and a Merry New Year from all of us at the SCVA!

Update 11

We are currently at a crossroads for the future of the velodrome. While surface repairs are about 85% complete and “casual riding” is taking place, we must raise $3,500 between October 1st and 8th for our insurance policy payment. If our insurance is canceled, we will be required to vacate the premises and the track itself could be repossessed. We have made great progress in recent months, including the addition of new members to our board and the completion of our 501c3 application allowing new avenues of fundraising in the future, but we are still at a moment of crisis.

Here are the things we’re asking supporters to do this week:

- Donate: Friends, your friends, networks and small to medium gifts can fill this short-term need. Every $20-100+ helps these next few days. If you’ve already donated, can you consider anothother gift?

- Help spread the word: share the news and contact 5 friends to donate or sponsor. Personal appeals made face to face are the single strongest way to get new supporters. Remember, no amount is too small.

- Sponsors: Formal sponsor proposals will be ready later this month but we’re looking now for anyone who wants to get a head start. Reach out to your local businesses or places of work to see if they’re able to sponsor the track and add themselves to an effort to make a difference in the city.

Any and all contributions to support this effort can be made here: gofundme.com/SoChgoVelodrome

After Chicago almost lost its only inner-city velodrome in late 2014, the South Chicago Velodrome Association was formed and successfully negotiated a contract to purchase the track. About ⅓ of the balance has been paid, the land lease is signed and a solid insurance policy is in SCVA’s name. The SCVA is entirely managed and run through the commitment of its volunteers. We believe we have a rare opportunity to share and can help expand a unique part of the cycling community

We are current behind in paying both our payments on the track and insurance for the site. The track payment is $5000, and the insurance payment is $2363.30. We currently have only ~$1500 in our account. You have generously helped us out in the past and we are hoping you can come through again, today! We understand that it's not always easy or even possible sometimes to help, particularly when the request seemingly comes out of the blue. The fact is, we are still working hard to have some activity other than repair work at the track in the next few weeks. At that time we hope to present a better, more realistic picture of the immediate and long term future of the track, think something like, 6 months, 1 year plans/hopes. With some sort of open house, BBQ get together (TBD)

But today, we need to raise ~$6000. There will be more requests, feel free to ignore those but as we shape up a funding plan and grow this effort into something sustainable we will have other challenges. Today's is $6000.

Can you help?

Lots of stuff has been happening down at the track! We've obtained a land lease as of 7/18 and last Saturday we had our first big work day. You can see some pictures and read up about it here:

http://chicagovelodrome.com/?p=181

Work isn't yet complete, and we have two official work days on Saturday and Sunday of this week. If you're interested in visiting the track and helping out you can sign up here:

We've also opened our High School Track League and are looking to begin our Junior Mechanics program, but it's really important we continue to raise dollars in order to move forward.

Those of you who have already supported us, please consider an additional donation. We're getting closer to the goal, but there's lots of work still left to do and we can't succeed without the help and support of the entire community. Thank you so much for all of your support so far; we can do this!
