Our story

Brought to you by Louisiana Press Award-winning sports journalist and feature columnist Jesse Brooks, Small Town Stories aims to tell the stories that are not being told in South Louisiana. As an online culture publication, we strive to bring you stories based on the art, music, sports, sights, tastes and sounds that affect your daily life.

We have started on a small scale, chronicalling prep sports in Tangipahoa, St. Helena and St. Tammany Parish with few ventures into coverage of local food and music. We have our sights set on so much more as we aim to start in the Florida Parishes and expand throughout South Louisiana and the Gulf Coast.

This project is inspired by the many great rural and Southern roots culture magazines in print many of us grew up with. In this digital form, we pledge to pass on the stories of the South Louisiana to a digital generation.

We also work with print partners like local newspapers and magazines to provide them content.

Founder Jesse Brooks has experience in in print and digital media for over a decade. In 2016, Brooks won six individual awards from the Louisiana Press Association, including two first place awards (Best Sports Story and Best Sports Column). Since then, he has been featured in several magazines in the New Orleans area in both print and digital platforms.
Brooks is also a culture blogger in his spare time, and is a member of the New Orleans Yelp Elite, a recognition of his past reviews for taverns, pubs and restaurants.
