Sigma Freeze -- 2015:
Central Michigan University’s Greek community was excited this past year during 2015, when the Sigma Chi's at Central Michigan University hosted the 1st Annual Sigma Freeze at the Mount Pleasant Ice Arena to help raise funds and awareness in their joint fight to help find a cure for cancer.
The first annual Sigma Freeze hockey game packed the rink with members from Sigma Chi, Sigma Pi, sororities and alumni all chanting and cheering for their fraternity's team. Over $ 4,000 was raised in the 1st year of the event.
Comments from 2015 Executive Members:
Sigma Chi Fundraising Chair, Ryan Holder, who played in the game, said the game was a great way to get Greeks excited about charity and thanked the brothers of Sigma Pi for their involvement.
“This is a great event for a great charity,” Holder said. “The guys are having fun and we are doing our part to help a great charity, the Huntsman Cancer Institute, fight cancer." "The whole goal is to raise money and help with cancer research so we can be the last generation where a family member is affected by cancer," Sigma Chi Member Grinblatt said.
Collegiate Charities join forces with Sigma Freeze
This year, Collegiate Charities (which is the promoter of ten (10) similar events around the country), is joining forces with Sigma Freeze to help raise even more money for the Hunstman Cancer Institute.
President Carl Lamb announced that "we are very excited about our partnership with the Sigma Chi's and Sigma Pi's at Central Michigan." During the year's expansion, the Sigma Freeze will join the Collegiate Charities Frat Classic family of events, which all started 5 years ago at Indiana University.
2016 Sigma Freeze Goal:
This year's event will be Saturday February 20th. It is our goal to raise over $ 10,000. A big part of whether we will be successful, or not, depends upon the donations by our brothers, families, friends and other individuals, who are willing to make a donation to help this great cause.
