Shanna's trip 2 Pitt Hopkins Clinic

Donation protected
Shanna was diagnosed in 2009 with Pitt Hopkins Syndrome and it's been a struggle for everything since she was born. Shanna is now 13. She has had a rough time. Some days very sick, some times hospitalized. Since her birth and especially since her diagnosis, I, like all other parents, have been trying to find ways to make her life easier, not for myself, but for her. She is nonverbal and when she isn't feeling well, she can't tell me what's wrong. When she's happy, she can't tell me what's made her happy. Last year Shanna started having seizures, since then it was discovered she aspirates and needs all her liquids thickened. She has gone from a seemingly healthy 75 lbs, to 85 lbs and back down to 70 lbs. It's been a struggle getting nutrients in her body, she suffers from severe constipation as well. She's been hospitalized because she had blockages. Shanna also has severe allergies, she has weak muscles and she can't walk long distances, she also can't stand in one spot for very long because her legs turn yellow/purple and blotchy. Every day is a struggle. Every night I put her to bed and I'm exhausted, I lay in bed and try to prepare for the next day. Every morning I go in and thank God she's alive and able to do it all over again.

Being her mother has taught me many lessons in life. Don't take anything for granted, don't wish for something unless you really think about what you're wishing for, and live life to the fullest, even if that means my life is now hers.

An opportunity has come about for Shanna to be seen at the new Pitt Hopkins Clinic at Mass General Hospital in Boston, Mass.  Shanna's insurance will not cover the cost of this trip. I need your help with financial assistance so Shanna can be seen at the new Pitt Hopkins Clinic. The Pitt Hopkins Clinic is a place where Shanna and her mom will be able to go to get answers and the support they need.

**Pitt Hopkins Syndrome (PTHS) is a severe neurological disorder.
**Most Pitt Hopkins kids are happy, easily excitable, and are full of laughter and smiles. However they have severe global delays and most are non-verbal and only say up to 10 words.
