Unsolved Murder of Seth Rich

My name is Aaron Rich and I am the brother of the Seth Rich who was murdered in Washington DC on July 10th, 2016. His murder remains unsolved to this day.

Seth was an amazing person who only cared about trying to help others and make the world better. He was extremely passionate about his civic duty and making sure everyone had a chance to be heard. My brother made a difference every single day, and I know that now more than ever because of the emotional support we have received from across the country and around the world.

His murder remains a mystery, and despite the hard work of the detectives at the Washington Metropolitan Police Department, we have still been unable to get the answers to the questions surrounding his death. Because of the lack of clear evidence in the case, Seth’s job working for the Democratic National Committee and the caustic political environment we find ourselves in today, many people have used my brother’s murder for their own agendas. Every few weeks another conspiracy theory surfaces, another promise of credible information and another lack of evidence to support the crazy claims being made.

My family has received many offers of assistance in finding Seth’s killers, and we are so grateful for each and every one of them. It gives us hope to know that Seth isn’t forgotten and that his case remains on people’s minds.

One thing that no one tells you, and something we weren’t prepared to hear when we lost Seth, is that if a case isn’t solved immediately, it could take months or years before justice is served. Worse, to keep the investigation active, to seek leads and to follow up on investigations, to make sure that every possible angle is covered—its expensive. My family isn’t wealthy and because we lack the funds or resources to make sure we are doing what we can to aid Washington’s police department, we’ve had to rely on help. Experience has taught us that we need help, and we need help that is free from any ulterior motives or with any strings attached. That’s why, with a heavy heart, I have started this fund.

These funds will allow my family to investigate, and help solve Seth's murder. We know somewhere, someone has the information on who murdered Seth. We intend to use these funds to hire professional help that can discover new facts and information, cooperating with the police and solving this in the fastest way possible. The funds will be used for three purposes:

1)     Allow us to raise and maintain public awareness of Seth's unsolved murder through means such as flyers, direct mailings, etc.

2)     Allow the family to hire investigative, forensic and analytical services we believe will be useful for discovering new facts and leads in the case.

3)     Maintain, and then increase, the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction at/from it's current level.

These funds will be held in a separate account maintained and administered by the family to ensure full transparency for their use.

We ask for your help in enabling us to help solve Seth's murder, and find the closure we need to move forward in our grieving of our beloved brother and son.

Thank you for your time, support, and sharing of our story.

Hello everyone,

First, I want to thank everyone for the kind words and messages we continue to receive. As we approach the anniversary of Seth's passing, there are two things I want to mention:

1. Below is a statement from my parents and I.

2. We will be using some of the GoFundMe funds to print and distribute over 20,000 flyers in the next few weeks. We will focus the distribution in the areas surrounding the location of Seth's murder to ensure we reach as many people as we possibly can.

Thank you for your continued thoughts, prayers and support.

-Aaron

On the anniversary of the passing of our son and brother, we are again feeling the deep loss of this senseless act. We want to take a moment and thank those who have helped preserve Seth’s legacy by contributing time, energy and resources towards a scholarship fund in his name that will enable children from across the country to enjoy his beloved Camp Ramah. The many words of support from around the country and the world have been very comforting to us during this difficult year. We are hopeful that folks take the lessons of Seth’s life and the values that guided him to heart—Public service, civic participation, democracy and working together to enrich each others’ lives.

In addition to the first-time camper who will be enjoying Camp Ramah in Wisconsin as the first recipient of the Seth Conrad Rich Memorial Scholarship Endowment, Creighton University will award a scholarship to a student for the upcoming school year. This scholarship will come from the Seth Rich Scholarship Endowment. The criteria for awarding the scholarship will be for “applicants who embody qualities of involvement, leadership, service, and the determination to make a positive difference in the world.”
The Nebraska Society of DC has set up a fund in Seth’s name and will be using that fund to provide financial assistance to an intern from Nebraska who will be serving our country in Washington, DC, this year.

Thanks to the donations to the Seth Rich Memorial Camp Scholarship fund at Beth El Synagogue’s annual Cantor’s Concert, more than twenty campers will receive assistance in going to Jewish camps. These “service grants” will be repaid by the recipients by service to the synagogue during the year.

All of this is to say that despite so much that our family has gone through this year, that Seth’s legacy of public service, his determination to make the world a better place and his genuine desire to foster engagement among Americans of all ages persists, and it serves as a comfort to our family at a dark time.

The family would also like to thank the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC, for their ongoing investigation of the murder of Seth. While we are saddened that the crime has not been solved yet, we were aware early on, this was going to be a difficult case to solve. We are grateful for the ongoing communication from the MPD, and hopeful that their continued efforts will allow the case to be solved and justice to be delivered.

Finally, we are compelled to address those who are claiming to help by undertaking private “investigations”, staging reenactments, or traveling to Seth’s old neighborhood to perform citizen interviews. Our request is that anyone with information about Seth’s murder share such information with MPD, which is the law enforcement agency authorized by law to perform this investigation. And while we recognize the futility of this request, we make it anyway: please cease using Seth as a political football in predetermined partisan narratives. The continual push of false and inaccurate information about Seth’s death, along with the harassment of Seth’s friends, family and co-workers, hurts those who were closest to Seth, and does nothing to bring justice to his killers. Those who still live in Seth’s neighborhood are owed the peace of mind that comes with finding those responsible for this heinous crime, and we deserve that no less.

Hi Everyone,

In light of recent events, I wanted to post a quick update.

First and foremost, I wanted to thank everyone for their support in answering the only question that matters- who killed Seth? Being committed to the facts will be what answers that question.

To date, we have not used any of the raised funds. As previously stated, we will report when we do.

Recent events have unfortunately highlighted our family's need for total independence and control of any private effort to help solve the
murder. We can't take offers of help from third parties as even with steps put in place meant to protect us, we still find our family being used for political motives.

We have never tried to hurt and use others the way we keep getting hurt and used.

I will ask again if everyone would re-share this effort one more time. Help allow us the independence we need to assist, not impede, the solving of Seth's murder. Allow us, Seth's family, to seek out the help required, and not rely on aid offered with strings.

Thank you again for your support.

-Aaron

First, I’d like to thank every single person who has donated and shared to help us solve my brother’s murder. Each and every donation gives me hope and confidence that his murder will be solved while also preserving his name and legacy. The private messages of support and encouragement bring a smile to my face. I can’t thank you enough and apologize I can’t thank each of you personally.

I’m currently in Omaha to attend an event for a scholarship being renamed for Seth. This gave me a chance to sit with my parents, go over the comments together which has been great. We have started talking about what are the first efforts we might want to explore doing.

I want to clarify that the family has not taken on any efforts yet. Any effort we take through this will be announced here. Other efforts being conducted are completely independent from the family despite using Seth’s name.

I also want to remind people that any information related to Seth’s murder should be given to the DC Metropolitan Police Department. Their anonymous tip line is (202) 727-9099 or you can text 50411

Thank you all again for your support from the bottom of our hearts.
