Help send me to Destination Imagination Global Competition in Knoxville, Tennessee from May 21st - May 25th 2013.

Hi. My name is Gabe and I'm from Deerfield. I am a nice kid. I work hard in school to get A's and B's on my report card. Sometimes it's not so easy because I have autism and fine motor issues, but I work my hardest everyday! I love Spiderman and Star Wars and can answer almost any trivia question about both. I am a Boy Scout, and last year I earned the highest Scout award, The Arrow of Light, that can be given to a Cub Scout. I also won 2nd place for selling popcorn, not an easy feat.
This school year I decided to join the Destination Imagination club at my school. I thought it would be fun to join a "creative problem solving" club and I knew that we would have competitions. First, my team and I went the Illinois Far North regional competition in March and won 1st place out of the entire region!!! This past weekend, we went to the state championship and my team won 1st place again in our division! We practiced after school for many hours to get this far.
This means that we get to go to the Global Championship next month in Tennessee to compete against 1,000 teams from around the world. I would love to join my team there but it is very expensive for my family. A parent has to accompany me and stay with me along with the rest of our Illinois teammates. These are the costs:
Flight $340 from Chicago to Louisville for both of us.
Registration/accommodations/meals $685 x 2 since my dad (or mom) has to stay with me.
Illinois Team T-shirt $10 x 2 since we have been told that parent and child MUST each buy a team shirt.
$60 for the pins to trade at the competition and also mail to donors of $50 .
The total is $1790. It's actually more than what I am asking for, but I am using all of my birthday money to cover $90.  My parents are covering any taxi and car rental costs as well as babysitters that will need to watch my sisters while one parent goes with me and the other parent stays and goes to work.
My parents would love to be able to pay for all of it and they tell me all the time  how proud they are of me and how much they believe in me.
I promise to do my best at the competition and post pictures for all of you. Thank you for being so nice and reading this and also donating if you can. I appreciate any amount that you can donate.
If you can't donate, I understand, but can I ask a favor? Can you share my page as much as you can so that I can hopefully make it to the competition next month. Thank you.

Thank you for supporting Gabe & the Walden Destination Imagination team at Global Finals. Your support has helped provide Gabe (& his 3 teammates) with an opportunity for growth in science, technology and social interaction outside the standard school curriculum. The ability for children to absorb, and use, new concepts is truly amazing, and they have grown tremendously.

Gabe and Team T.A.P. came in a fantastic 23rd (out of 76 international and national teams competing in the elementary level. Gabe's team came in 8th for their story and 10th for their vehicles. It was easily their best performance of the year, against international competition far tougher than at the Illinois tournament.

Scoring was really tight. So close, that a just a mere .25 of an inch by one of their vehicles (to put it in the next scoring zone) would have move them up to 13th place!

Highlights of their presentation included scoring 38% more points for accuracy than any previous tournament, and having a near perfect score for integrating a vehicle into the story line.

DI has provided Gabe & his teammates with a tremendous experience. They have learned scientific principles behind propulsion, chemical reactions, forces of gravity and laws of motion. Technology and engineering were learned, and then used to build their vehicles and make them travel straight. They used probability and statistics to find just the right way for launching vehicles to achieve the maximum score.

For Gabe, he also had an incredible experience in interacting with other students from around the country and across the globe. He felt in his element and was comfortable interacting with others since he knew every kid there loved science (and pin-trading) like him. The energy, excitement and enthusiasm throughout the Globals was mind-blowing. Gabe will never forget the experience! While he did not score as high as he wanted, the experience has left a burning desire to compete and make it to Globals again.

Gabe's dad and I could not have offered this life-changing experience to Gabe (and his sisters) without your support. Thank you!

This is Gabe. I have not updated recently because I have been very busy with school and Destination Imagination practice. I am so happy today because my mom and dad got an email from the Far North Illinois Regional Director that MY team "has been selected to represent Team Illinois in the opening ceremony parade!" There are several teams from Illinois going representing the different age divisions but my team got picked to represent Illinois at the parade! My mom and dad were thrilled with the news. The parade will be webcast live so I will post a link and all of you can wave at me from your TV. That is all for today.

Sorry I've been behind on my updates. I wanted to let you know we had an incredible time at the KIDDOS show. Gabe got up in front of a lot of people and explained his D.I. fundraiser, and so many people offered support and words of encouragement. Gabe felt like a celebrity! Also, our school's PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) has very generously donated $250 towards each of the 4 students attending D.I. Globals for a total of $1000!!! I am reducing our fundraising total to reflect that. Once again, thank you for your support. We are so close to our goal!!!
