Help Detroit Musician Scott Morgan
About four years ago, Scott was diagnosed with terminal liver cirrhosis and a stomach tumor that was swiftly and painfully ravaging his body. Against great odds, Scott survived thanks to the excellent medical staff at University of Michigan and St. Joseph Hospitals. Scott spent 2 years in treatment and recovery, and a third year in physical therapy to regain his vocal strength. As a result of being out of work for so long, after a grueling and indefinitely long period of recuperation, Scott faces a heavy load of financial obstacles. Saddled with medical bills, credit card debt, reduced federal assistance, and high rent and heating bills, all of this is making it impossible for Scott to save money, pay back his debts, and provide for himself as a full-time musician. If Scott does not get immediate help, he could face eviction by the end of this summer.
Now, starting over, he needs your help to keep the lights on, record new music, tour, and essentially begin again.
The majority of contributions will secure Scott a place to live and food to eat, and the remaining sum will go towards studio and tour expenses with Scott’s most recent collaborative outfit, Detroit soul group The Sights.
Scott’s music is a gift to the world. Let’s help him continue to make the beautiful music he’s known for. Any contribution will help, thank you and God bless

2016 was a long and productive year, Scott and The Sights spent countless hours in the studio and are proud to bring you the now mastered album "Scott Morgan & The Sights - Rough and Ready". Once again we owe it to all of Scott's amazing fans for being key backers of this huge musical undertaking, it has been truly life-affirming for everyone involved and we cannot thank you enough!
While the band spends the next few months negotiating potential contracts for the album, there is other business afoot that can either make or break the whole project.
Fundraiser activity has fallen steeply since summer and Scott still faces ongoing financial challenges. In December his employment with the University of Michigan ended and he is once again looking for work, and earlier today he found out that he has a blown head gasket on his car to replace. Rent is increasing for his home and he has no savings to fall back on, he only has about three months worth of rent before he is completely insolvent.
One of the most important things previous backers can do is share this fundraiser with as many people as they can, we deeply appreciate your ongoing support and thank you for staying tuned.
The fundraiser has helped pay for some urgent dental procedures, Scott has gladly received treatment after not getting dental care for over 3 years.
Jim Jarmusch has a new movie out about The Stooges called Gimme Danger showing at the Detroit Institute of Arts, and features City Slang by Sonic's Rendezvous Band. It's a great film for Scott to be featured in as Jarmusch is known for curating great soundtracks to compliment his phenomenal films. I hope you get a chance to see it, link below:
Best of all, we are happy to announce that Scott's studio album with The Sights is ready for mastering! It's 11 tracks and richly composed of exceptional soul performances and sounds, largely the result of your support and generosity.
Releasing the album may take just as much patience and funding as making it, and this record will stay in storage until other affairs are resolved or taken care of. While Scott is in the process of transitioning to a new record label, what's left to finalize is procuring a record contract, finding a distributor, accruing demand, promotion, etc. These decisions will demand time and hopefully will not put the project at risk of being unprofitable. Honoring your many pledges to this project Scott will proceed as quickly and wisely as he's able, please continue your support in any way you can.
Thank you for your loyalty to this project that is ever evolving, together we can keep it in motion, please contribute and share!
Also there might be a new Rationals reissue in the works, so stay tuned!
However, the security Scott has gained with this fundraiser is always fleeting, which is why you'll hear about it in every update because I cannot stress enough how many financial interruptions Scott is up against, mainly from government aid.
Scott's welfare and government assistance is always subject to cutbacks, often without explanation, and every month Scott is put through the wringer to retestify and resubmit documents to his case worker to get back the modicum of assistance he absolutely cannot live without. Additionally, Scott is the sole financier of his studio project with The Sights, although it is near completion, the length of the project has cost Scott money from his fundraiser and he has been forced to use a large advance from his record company which he will need to pay back. Although risky, he has made a worthy investment because the music he has produced so far is BEAUTIFUL and you will not be disappointed if this record is able to launch.
Scott still has a part time job at the university and does his best to manage expenses, please continue your support by sharing this fundraiser with friends, musicians and music lovers.
A special thanks to The Sights for sticking it out with Scott and being a bastion and creator of real Detroit music.
Scott is not going on a Hydromatics European tour this summer, derailed mainly by lack of demand and financing constraints. Touring and performing is virtually the only way to make a living as a musician, so you can imagine how disheartening this is for Scott.
The silver lining in all this is that more time can be channeled towards completing the studio album with The Sights. Here are the songs that have been recorded so far with the last three only being in the written stage but on their way to be recorded in the next few weeks:
SOMEBODY'S TRYING TO KILL ME
I AIN'T GOT YOU
SHADES OF NIGHT
MOM SCOTT'S SMOKING
I LOST EVERYTHING
RED BONE GIRL
Please help Scott surmount his financial woes and help him invest in his amazing band! Thank you all for your kind words and loving support!
God Blessed this man to live. His time was not to go home just yet. My late husband, Dave Gilbert ( RIP) a beloved singer from Detroit most known for his work with Ashton , Nugent and The Rockets, died of this same horrible disease. Oh, how I wish he had a team of good Dr.s like Mr. Morgan . I wish he had stayed . I wish he could go into the studio and sing again too It was just his time, it can be anyone's time at any time in life. Struggling with illness is difficult as I have come to personally find out having blood cancer myself. This story is heartfelt. I know when illness strikes and we often reach a turning point to make good and positive change and I am so amazed as my spirit fights to keep the body that houses my soul in check. When we help each other with a kind light heart , in the way of giving with that good love energy the universe recognizes it . God knows our hearts and all about us. I am sincerely happy for Scott Morgan , his family and friends to have him here alive. l will give what I can. Blessings .... D. Gilbert
I hope Fred is ok, I did not know. Maybe I am past the point of no return. Downright Blue. If not, get well. Takes fools to remain sane. Patrik, Sweden
