Help me pay for lifesaving surgery for my sweet and resilient rescue kitten who has been suffering from a chronic respiratory infection since I brought him home, despite nebulization therapy, six rounds of increasingly intense antibiotics, antiviral and immune boosting medications, and aided nutrition since his condition makes it difficult to swallow and has stunted his growth. After five months of frustration I finally have an answer as to why there hasn't been any drastic improvement.
Tolly has a throat deformity that is blocking his airway and making it difficult to breathe and swallow, even when he isn't congested. This blockage also traps bacteria and causes chronic infection. Surgery on his palate would permanently solve this problem, but surgery is expensive and I've already struggled to pay for his treatment up to now.
I have a unique opportunity from a sympathetic vet to combine his neuter and throat operation. His neuter has been put off up to now because of his size and vulnerable condition, so being anesthetized twice is not only risky but would cost upwards of $6,000 for a separate throat surgery. This combined operation is the safest and most affordable option as it means he only has to be anesthetized once. Even this lowest tier treatment plan will cost $1400, and to get everything covered during this single operation would be $2300. Without surgery, Tolly's condition will stay chronic until it wears down his resilience, which has already surprised everyone. I would not prolong his suffering if that were the case.
Everybody who knows me or has met Tolly knows that he’s a shockingly sweet and happy kitten despite struggling constantly to breathe which makes him tire easily. With all of these difficulties he still has an appetite, loves to play, and loves being loved by people. Everyone he meets falls in love with him, cat person or no. I love my baby a lot and I would do anything to save him if I can, so I’m asking for your help to give him a shot at a normal life!
