Help Me Save My Twin Sister's Home

Here's the sad news: My sister ultimately lost her home after becoming disabled. Originally she did everything right. She went to college, got a great job, and started building the house of her childhood dreams- a log cabin. But tragedy intervened and my sister became paralyzed after a surgery gone wrong. Even after becoming disabled 14 years ago, she did everything possible to make her house payments. However, she really struggled for the last six years and repeatedly asked the bank to modify her loan but the bank, being what banks are these days, refused. Though recently she'd been in and out of foreclosure fighting to save her home it slowly and surely slipped from her grasp.

Here's the good news: I've managed to get a loan to buy it back!

Here's where YOU come in: Though I've negotiated a great price with the buzzards, I mean the bank, and can get the loan, I don't have money for the down payment and closing costs. Soooo, I'm asking you fine people to help me help my twin sister get back in the home she loved and literally hand-built.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart as I'm trying desperately to save my sister's home. Will you help me turn a true heartbreak into a true homecoming?

Thanks to YOU we got Crys' house back today!! We've been holding on to your contributions- and after many long months of negotiations- we finally closed on the house! It seemed like forever but we had to keep stalling until we could scrape up exactly what was needed. Every cent of your GoFundMe donations went toward saving sis' house. And ONLY because of your help we were able to get Crys' cabin back!
We literally just left our attorney's office with the keys. We've cried tears of joy all the way home and couldn't wait to unlock the house. We started a warm, homey fire, opened a bottle of cheap champagne, and wrote this update! We couldn't have done it without you. We can't thank you enough. We're eternally grateful for your kindness and generosity. Y'all ROCK!!!
Thank you again from the bottom of our little twin hearts!

A Shot Across The Bow: As I tweeted earlier this week the bank (seller) sent my attorney (yes, my ex) these email correspondences demonstrating their growing impatience with my stalling to come up with the necessary down-payment and finalize the sale [to forever save sis' beloved hand-built home]. The bank wants to send a realtor to the cabin to "look at access issue" as "we have not been able to get anywhere with the sale".

Firstly, let me explain the "access issue". Unfortunately I cannot go into specifics, but based on an adjacent property dispute my parents have a lawsuit against UMSB ( the seller). That is the only detail my parents have given me permission to reveal at this time.

Now that brings us to the pertinent issue of the bank pushing to send -yet another- realtor to (what used to be) Crys' cabin. This time, we fear, it's probably to begin the process of listing the home since I've not yet held up my end of the purchase agreement- the one I signed months ago when I had mortgage financing secured through Fifth Third Bank. Based on previous updates, you already know that Fifth Third reneged on my loan at the last minute.

In summary, the bank is forcing my hand. It's "pee, or get off the pot" time. A new urgency is at hand. I've had excellent support and understanding up to this point from you wonderful donors and cheerleaders. We simply need to finish this so the house doesn't get listed and picked up by another buyer who already has the necessary money.

We can do this! I believe in you. More importantly, I'm thankful for YOUR belief in ME.

Here's where we are right now on sis' house, peeps. I've been wanting to write an update to send everyone but things never seem to settle long enough for any update to be meaningful. Since the first lenders bailed, we've been at a standstill. The only lenders who are willing to handle a log home mortgage now want about $14,250 down plus closing costs/fees (estimated at $5,000). We don't have that much... Yet.

Crys is trying to sell some items (like a vintage camper, etc) so we'll feel comfortable that we have enough money to move forward. Just heard from my attorney (my ex husband) YESTERDAY that the seller (the original asshole foreclosure bank, lol) is willing to do a 5% second mortgage if the new lender will accept the 10% we already came up with. Everyone's motivated except the lenders at this point.

Thanks for being a part of this project. Thanks for caring and asking for updates. We're gonna get this done... Eventually!! Couldn't do it without your help. We love you!!

I've been in shock and frankly had no idea how to break the news, peeps, but here it is. I received notification from my lender last week (on the day scheduled for closing!) that they would not be offering me the loan, as promised, because they didn't realize the house was a log home!!! Finding comps was impossible, I guess. So now I'm working with another lender who does unconventional and log home mortgages. The seller, United Midwest Savings Bank, has extended me some time since this was through no fault of my own as they had also received confirmation through Fifth Third Bank that closing was imminent.
Chin up, peeps! I'm determined. No wonder Crys didn't want me to get her hopes up. Poor thing. What a roller coaster ride. Hang on tight. You've all given us so much extra fight!! We WILL finish this, thanks to you generous donors.

As I mentioned on Twitter, I have my own housing crisis going on...but IF I had any money to share, I would... in a heartbeat. Best I can do is pass it on, and hope others, like me, don't want to see this happen to ANYONE.
