Heifer's Life-Saving Heart Surgery

West Suburban Humane Society is asking for your help to save a homeless puppy. Her name is Heifer and she has a condition called PDA  (Patent Ductus Arteriosus). This is a condition where a duct that closes at birth fails to do so and the results can be fatal. Heifer is one of six babies born to mom Oreo and she needs to have surgery at U of I in Urbana, IL.  Without surgery, most puppies die at a younger age than Heifer is now, so time is not on her side. We hope and pray that she will be okay until the surgery can be completed. We need to act very soon if we expect a good outcome.   

Yes, there are six puppies in this litter, so why save this one? Because that is what we do. How can we turn our backs on this little baby? Heifer is a loving, sweet puppy who will live a normal dog's life as long as she gets this critical surgery. Many shelters would simply euthanize a puppy with a congenital conditional such as this, but that is not our way. Every life matters and Heifer never signed up for a life-threatening condition. The good thing about PDA is that once it is fixed, the dog is expected to live a long and normal life. That is all we wish for little Heifer, a chance at a healthy life and a forever home.
