Sarge, a 7 year old tiny 10 lb. Miniature Schnauzer, was rescued Sunday, October 18, 2015 by Sheila's Schnauzies Miniature Schnauzer Rescue & Sanctuary, a private not for profit organization in Omaha, Nebraska since 1999, by purchasing him from a puppy mill breeder auction.

Sarge, a puppy mill survivor, is malnourished and will need surgical removal of his black, rotten and infected teeth. He will also need to be neutered, get all of his vaccinations, heartworm testing, flea and tick prevention, an extreme ear cleaning and some medications. I am estimating the cost of his vet care at $875 - $1000.  I am additionally allowing a small amount of gasoline expenses to help defray costs of transporting Sarge wherever in the U.S.  he eventually ends up in his forever home.

I am picking Sarge up to bring home today and will immediately take him to the vet to have all his needs cared for. I don't know where the money is coming from and am doing what needs to be done on faith. And that is why I am here to ask for your help.

I received word that Sarge, who has spent his entire life as a puppy mill breed dog, was up for auction along with many dozens of other purebred dogs being sold by the puppy mill breeder. Did I want him? Yes! Another rescue held this little sweet boy for me until I could pick him up.

I visited him the first time at the shelter holding him for me on Monday and spent a couple of hours getting acquainted. When I first saw him he flinched at every touch.

I played some Katrina Parker quietly on my phone to try and relax him. I stood in front of his open cage just talking gently to him. Eventually I touched his back and though he was shaking like a leaf, he allowed me to pet him and eventually I petted all over his body doing an exam for anything obvious. He tolerated this okay, so after awhile I picked him up and held him against me. After several minutes, his shaking stopped! Feeling lucky, I gave the poor filthy boy a bath and a 'fake' comb out. He put up with it all cheerfully!

I stood him on a table and laid a little treat down which he took after a brief hesitation. By the end of our time he had taken treats from my hand! He sniffed my hand and when I put my face to the cage door he sniffed me!!! This little guy is going to do great I have a feeling!!! From what everyone tells me, it does not usually go this well with puppy mill rescues.

My husband suggested the name, "Sarge." In thinking about it, the irony of such a strong name for such a tiny, timid boy kind of worked for me! So Sarge he shall be.

Although Sarge is AKC registered, he has brownish streaks thru his fur. According to his papers he is the color, "Liver."  Some breeders provide many different colors of Schnauzers for which they are able to command exceedingly high prices.

This little boy has never walked or slept on anything except a wire cage floor for the whole seven years of his life. He's never owned a toy, been called by a name, or slept in a dog bed;  never had human contact except for the bare minimum needed to move him around and feed him. He's never had a doggie friend or rolled in the grass in the sun. Today is going to be one very special day for him, I hope!

I am picking him up in a little while to bring him home and meet my two Schnauzer girls. Sarge can have a bright future with rehabilitation and finding him the perfect forever home. I will provide the work and the love. I just need help with the expenses. Thank you for whatever way you can help! God bless you.

It's hard to believe that so much time has passed since I purchased Sarge's freedom from a seven year "life" at a puppy mill back in October. His life has "done a 180" in that time! It is my proudest achievement to have helped him become what he is today – one spoiled, healthy boy! It is thanks to each of you who has helped Sarge that this is possible. Your generosity has paid for surgeries and other medical treatment, ongoing health care, and more. We are almost at our goal, just $200 away! Won't you help today by sharing Sarge's campaign with your social media? I want to be able to say "YES" to the next Sarge in need. We know that Sarge's replacement at the puppy mill is undoubtedly in place and right now that can't be helped, at least by me... but there's another special boy or girl out there waiting. Please help me help them by having Sarge's expenses recovered. Bless you for helping in any way you can!
Does he look happy or what!

This is a bit belated because I have been ill... but wanted to share this amazing photo of doggie happiness, little Sarge in his New Year's hat! He seems pretty cheerful about wearing it! Sarge has a new year to look forward to and a new wonderful life with his new family! This is now one spoiled rotten pooch thanks to the generosity of all of YOU who have contributed to his campaign, and/or shared it with your social media!

We are very close to reaching Sarge's goal - only $250 away! Can you help his campaign go to the top? If you look at Sarge's progress from day one of his rescue, you will see that your contributions have made a huge improvement in the life of this furry kid. He had so many medical problems - everything from malnutrition and double ear infections to rotten dead teeth causing infection and severe pain. We fixed every one of them and he is now in perfect health! It is so rewarding to see. Won't you be a part of his success? We thank you for sharing his campaign with your social media friends and contributing if you can. By helping, you ensure that we can say "yes!" the next time the phone rings telling us about another rescue in need. Without your support it would simply not be possible. Thanks and God bless you for your support!

Sargie's first Christmas as a "free dog" - no cage, no pain, no anything bad! Instead he got to spend it with his brand new forever family, being spoiled rotten as he should be! And all of this is thanks to each of you who helped in some way by donating or by sharing the link to this campaign!

I had the incredible joy of getting to watch Sargie and big sister Olivia (an amazing totally blind Schnauzer) overnight this weekend while Mom & family went on a little trip! It was pure heaven getting to snuggle this little boy and give him a few thousand kisses! Here he is during his stayover lounging in his favorite bed.

Please help us be able to help the next Sargie by helping us reach our goal on Sargie's medical expense campaign! We must recover our expenses before we can help the next dog. As we close 2015, remember your contributions are tax deductible. And we still need your help in sharing the link to his campaign with your social media!

Thank you, on behalf of Sargie, from the bottom of my heart! May all the blessings you have given us be returned to you a thousand fold.

A thousand kisses rained on my face last night when Sargie climbed up on my lap during his visit last night! Maybe it was more than a thousand... however many, each one was wonderful!! I think it's safe to say he remembered mommy Sheila! His new mom Susan brought him over for a little Christmas surprise. What an absolute JOY to see the bond that has grown between these two! I only wish I had thought to take photos, I'm afraid I was too excited to see Sarge to think about it! Sarge had not forgotten his bond with me, either. He divided his attention between the two of us, now and then coming over to me wanting to be picked up. Then when I'd sit him down, he'd go back to Mom and reassume his place on her lap. How awesome! I'm very excited that I get to watch Sarge and his sister Olivia for a few days over the holidays, I'm sure there will be a lot of "spoiling rotten" going on!

Susan was afraid in the beginning that Sarge wouldn't bond with her, but I was very sure he would and I was right! It did take a lot of time and patience on Susan's part; it was far from instant. But three weeks into their new relationship, they are totally inseparable!

And that, my friends, is why I do what I do. It's to see that moment when the dog is SO happy in their new situation, and the new owner has been blessed by the love of the new doggie. I always have said that when I say "yes" to a rescue, God always finds the right owner who needs them as much as the dog needs a home.

Thank you to each of you who has contributed to helping Sarge by your gifts and/or by sharing his campaign link with your social media network! We hope you will continue doing that so we may rebuild to help the next dog in need.
