New Fence For The Hooker Homestead

Tax deductible
The Sarah Whitman Hooker Homestead, one of Elmwood's most distinctive landmarks, has been restored, maintained, and kept open to the public by a small team of volunteers who have done this work since the early 1970's. In the early 1980's we formed the Sarah Whitman Hooker Foundation to solicit and receive financial support. From time to time we have asked the community for help. Our needs now include a new fence (the old one is starting to fall apart), a new sign, and some structural work (more about that later). We thought that we would test the waters for fundraising by establishing this page and asking for your support to purchase and install a new fence on the north side of the property (the other side of the house in the picture). The new fence will improve the appearance of the Homestead and define the boundaries of the property to minimize sidewalk trash. The new fence will enhance the value to Elmwood residents and businesses of hosting one of West Hartford's  premiere historical sites open to the public. All funds will be applied to the acquisition and installation of the fence. We would like to purchase and install the fence this spring (2017) and we cannot make the financial comitment without the funds in hand. This solicitation is being made by persons who live in West Hartford and who work directly with the Homestead and its Foundation strictly on a volunteer basis.
