Help Sarah Get to Nationals in Cali

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Sarah Mackenzie and I'm 13 years young.

When I told my parents I wanted to compete in a pageant, they immediately said, "No!" Just like that, they refused to even think about it. I'm not one to argue with them when they feel so strongly about a decision. But...

Even though they didn't realize it, that wasn't the end of the story.

The pageant I wanted to compete in doesn't allow makeup for girls in the Pre-Teen division and younger, and there's no swimsuit competition ever...not even for the 18 year old girls.

National American Miss (NAM) focuses on building confidence and poise that girls can rely upon throughout their lives.

I researched and showed them how different NAM is from the typical "beauty pageant" they're so against.

They said yes!

This year I won 2nd runner up in the Pre-Teen division for Texas!

That means I'm headed to California in November to compete for the national title. I'm so excited, but I need help!

I raised almost all the funds myself for my state competition -- over $1,200.

Thank you to the wonderful people who sponsored me for the state competition:

Warthog Firearms
Gloyer's Pharmacy
Colletti Threads
Northside Imports

My parents paid for the hotel, food, and things like that.

For the national competition, I'm back at it again with bake sales, garage sales, and asking for sponsors.

The funds I'm raising will cover my:

Evening gown
Business attire
Finale attire
Main pageant fees
Optional contest fees (I'm entering in the actress contest and maybe one other)
Flowers
Activities with other contestants
Plane tickets for four
7 nights at the Anaheim Marriott

Thank You!

Your help means so much to me and it's tax deductible. If you donate and would like a tax receipt, please let me know and I'll send you one right away.

As a sponsor, you'll be listed in the national program book right alongside my picture.

Compteting in NAM for the past two seasons (I didn't place last year) has empowered me in ways I can't explain and I'm ever grateful that my parents gave it a chance.

Encouraging Girls to Soar

By winning the national title, I'll have an even greater opportunity to encourage young girls who may not feel confident or who might not have a lot of support from others.

I hope to empower them to love themselves, work hard toward gaining skills and knowledge, and go after their dreams in life despite what anyone else may say.

Girls compete in three main areas:

1. Personal introduction - like a 30 second public speaking competition and done in front of an audience of close to 1,000 or more people. (Dress in business attire)

2. Business interview - done in a business interview setting where various interviewers ask each girl in a one-on-one meeting about their resume. (Dress in business attire)

3. Formal wear competition - here, judges look for poise and confidence when walking with an escort on stage (this year my 21 year old brother escorted me). Girls must choose age-appropriate formal gowns to wear as the emcee introduces them to the audience. (Dress formal wear)

NAM also encourages community involvement, so contestants must donate books or school supplies as they check in to the event as well.

Optional Contests

NAM offers girls like me the opportunity to compete in a variety of optional contests, which have nothing to do with the main competition outlined above.

There's spokesmodel, acting, talent, top model, and so many others, but I chose acting and top model.

I got 3rd runner up in the acting competiton!
