Sombreros for SAISD Mariachi Band

I’m writing on behalf of former San Angelo City Councilman Johnny Silvas, Howard Taylor, Director of the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts (“SAMFA”), Mario Castillo, Managing Director of the Aegis Group, Ltd., and myself to ask you to contribute toward the purchase of mariachi sombreros for the twenty-five (25) students enrolled in the mariachi program at Lakeview High School and Lincoln Middle School.
San Angelo’s Lakeview mariachi program is growing! As you will note from watching the attached video clip, it is an integrated musical experience for students from different backgrounds. Your contribution will help the students complete their Mariachi uniforms which the San Angelo Independent School District generously provided last year.
Our goal is to collect the $8,800 by MAY 1 of this year! Your donation will be made payable to "San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts" which is a 501c/3 institution, thus making your contribution "tax deductible." If you would like to donate by check, please earmark your check, "Lakeview Mariachi Sombrero Fund." Howard will be the custodian of funds collected and will record donations as they are received. Any funds collected beyond the $8,800 will be used by the mariachi program to defray the costs (i.e., travel, meals, etc.) of student participation in extracurricular activities. For example, on February 4, 2017, the professor and his students traveled to Monahans to compete in a UIL competition. At this competition, the students won a Division One Awards entitling them to compete in the TEXAS MARIACHI STATE COMPETITION in San Antonio on March 10th and 11th.
