Safed School of Design:
We want to be known for excellence in our Visual Communication areas and the opportunities we give our students to collaborate and innovate across them. Our vision is to be internationally acclaimed as a leader in design education, research and practice.  Accreditation from the Council on Higher Education is not an option, but a mandatory requirement. Future expansion would allow us to be Safed School of Design & Fine Art--allowing areas in painting, sculpture, art history, print making, photography, jewelry, and a multi-media theatre.

Israel currently has only five major institutions for design study--2 of which are in Jerusalem.

Safed is globablly recognized for its Artist Quarter and Galleries. It is home to the Kahn of the White Donkey (Music Academy), and the Tsfat Community Players (fine theater).  Members of the early Artist Quarter Association included some of Israel’s greatest artists of the 20th century including [Moshe Castel], [Frenel Frankel Gallery Safed|Yitzhak Frenel], Lea Nikel, Yossl Bergner and Menachem Shemi, Mordechai Levanon, Samson Holtzman, Aryeh Merzer and Ziona Tajar.

Safed has been flourishing in the arts for over half a century. The time has come to establish a fully-accredited school of Design, which can expand into additional departments of the Fine Arts.

We need your help investing in the future of Visual Communication. Our mission is to open the Safed School of Design within 3 years. SSD will encourage students to develop appropriate conceptual and technical problem solving skills enabling successful and meaningful Design. Our courses will prepare students for the field where they will be independently thinking, socially conscious professionals. Our service-learning design studios will provide pro-bono visual and conceptual expertise to local and regional non-profit organizations.

Safed (Hebrew: צְפַת‬ Tsfat) is located in the Northern District of Israel, in the upper Galilee. Since the 16th century, Safed has been considered one of the Four Holy Cities, along with Jerusalem, Hebron and Tiberias. It is recognized as the capital of Kabbalah.
