Secondhand Hounds Cat Fund

Here at Secondhand Hounds, we have a lot of recognition for our awesome dogs, and a lot of support from our wonderful and compassionate community. We have a growing cat program too, which includes frequent special cases – because that is what we are here for! We are so blessed to be able to say yes to some of these tough cases, and of course we couldn’t do it without you. We believe that they all deserve a chance at a happy life with a loving family, and we have made it our mission to help make it happen.
Our cat program is not self-supporting. The average COST for us to spay a healthy cat, administer rabies and distemper vaccinations and test them for FeLV is $150. Our average adoption fee for an adult cat ranges from $50 to $100. Recently, we have had several tough cases with our cats that have cost several thousand dollars to treat, on top of our standard costs. This is what we are here for, and we are passionate about helping them get what they need. With your help in offsetting the costs, we can say yes to the next cat that comes along and needs our help.

Lieutenant Dan was rescued from a shelter in Maine, and is believed to have suffered a traumatic brain injury. He had to relearn how to eat, walk, and use the litterbox. He will always have weakness and palsy in his back end, but he is otherwise a healthy and happy boy. He has come such a long way on his journey, and he is now getting ready to go to his forever home!

Boris as you can see is a very sweet, loving boy. He came to us very beat up from cat fights, and he is also FIV positive. He can't live in a home with other cats that aren't FIV positive, but that doesn't stop him from loving whoever opens their heart up to his big, soft face. We are hopeful he will have many years of love and warm beds ahead of him!

In Memory of St. Nicholas (2004-2/27/14), who stole the hearts of everyone he met. Named after the patron saint of children, Nic was found in an abandoned house in rural Minnesota with three tiny kittens. When a good samaritan fed them, he made sure they ate first. When they were cold, he wrapped himself around them. When our volunteer who got the call about the kittens arrived,  he was too weak to walk. He was beat up and severely malnourished. Of course we leave no man behind, and he was more than willing to be rescued. It turned out he was FIV positive, but that did not stop us from giving him all of the help that we could. With some TLC, he regained his strength, and was a gentle love. He spent his last months safe, warm and loved by a mom all his own, and we couldn't have asked for more than that.

This is Stuffing! He is a darling 7 month old kitten with a sweet personality. Ever since he was 6 weeks old, he has had chronic and severe stomach issues, and has been diagnosed with a severe case of Irritable Bowel Disorder or IBD. We hope that we can get his issues managed, so he can be available for adoption soon!!
