As you all may or may not know, I am currently going through my second year at the University of Denver. Being the first one in my family to go to college has definitely been an honor and a struggle. Regardless, I am making the most of my college experience. Due to complications in my financial aid, I have been working two jobs, 60+ hr weeks all summer (35 hour weeks during school) in order to pay for my own tuition. I am double majoring in Sports Psychology and Communications. My goal is to work for a professional sports team as a sports psychologist and hopefully become Dr. Garcia one day.
I am reaching out in hopes for your help because I am hoping to study abroad the fall of my 3rd year in COSTA RICA.
Besides visiting my family in Mexico, this will be my first time going any where else in the world. A once in a lifetime opportunity to travel down to Central America.
DU is known as one of the best schools to Study Abroad in the country. Here is why and how it works: If I decide to go through one of DU's partnering programs, there is a scholarship known as the Cherrington Scholarship, that matches all financial aid I receive for DU to be applied in CR. If I get granted this scholarship, I will still have to pay the same amount of tuition as I pay now plus room and board. Despite this program, I will still have substantial amount of unmet tuition costs. I will be using these funds to help pay for these unmet costs within my tuition, visa, travel, etc. Throughout the rest of the year I will continue to work two jobs (Work study and serving at Red Lobster) Out of my personal earnings 10% will go to Costa Rica while the rest will go towards my tuition for my second year. I will be applying for numerous scholarships, fundraising, and saving every extra cent that I can. But, I cannot do this without your help.
