SDR Operation for Darcey
Darcey is 6 years old and was born with 4 limb motor disorder which is a form of Cerebral Palsy. Darcey is an incredibly amazing girl who is very determined and has a winning smile. Darcey would love to be just like her friends, she doesn't want to have to walk with her walker anymore.
Darcey has just been accepted for an Operation at Great Ormand Street Hospital. Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), is a spinal operation which will reduce the spasticity in her muscles and will enable her to have more mobility. For other children who have had this operation other areas also improve which include upper body movements, speech and concentration so for these children it is Life Changing.
This operation isn't available on the NHS so we need to fund raise for the operation and the intensive Physio she will need afterwards.
Any help is gratefully received. Thank you x
We are thankful to everyone who has donated and supported us. We truly appreciate all the support you have given us. We are just waiting confirmation from Great Ormand Street about when the operation will be but we are expecting it to be in July. x x
Thank you once again and wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! xxx
A family member has given us a significant and generous donation which means we are able to go ahead with the operation. We are in shock but also relieved and very happy to be in this position. We have informed Great Ormond Street of our good news and are waiting for a date next year. Darcey is currently 15th on their waiting list.
We have lowered our fundraising total because we are still committed to the fundraising events that we have planned in. Any additional money raised will go towards any further care and therapy that Darcey will need after the operation. For example, we planned for a year's physio but know of other children who have needed it longer so any additional money will mean that she will have the care that she requires for as long as she needs it. Also we hadn't planned for any speech therapy but as this is also likely to improve after the operation, we will also include this so that Darcey is able to chat and communicate better with her friends as soon as possible.
We are very thankful to our family member who wishes to remain anonymous and to everyone who has supported us so far.
We will continue to post updates as to how we are getting on and you can still view all of Darcey's progress on our Facebook Page.
Hello friends, I am hoping to complete an 11 mile "pier to pier" walk on Sunday 13th September for this gorgeous little girl Darcey who just wants to "walk like her friends" (her words). Darcy is in my sons class and is so happy and positive and is a joy to be around. Please can you give what you can, no matter how small. Thank you x
"Darceys Angels" are a group of mum's whose children are in Darcey's class, we wanted to help raise some funds towards her treatment. On he 6th of March 2016, 8 of us are going to take part on The Nuts Challenge. A 7k assault course challenge we're sure it will be very cold, very wet, very MUDDY but we're going for it. Please donate as every pound will bring this little girl with a Million Dollar Smile closer to a better quality of life! Thank you xx
Sorry, thick fingers! Meant to say to post the link on North Stand Chat for BHA fans as we are normally all good hearted people!
I am not good at posting links, but can I suggest that
