The world knows about the devastation in Puerto Rico but how is the world reacting to the people that call this island their home.
I live in Central Florida with my wife Maria. She comes from Puerto Rico and when Maria, the hurricane, hit the island we decided that we could do more then just watch it on TV. We called our friends Pedro and his wife Lauri, residents of Peurto Rico and put our plan into action. I would organize to collect funds and Pedro would organize to give them away. We both agreed that other then required costs that come from banking and internet fees, 100% of the funds would be put directly in the hands of people that need it the most. Because of our size and ability to access the island Pedro has done an amazing job at finding to poorest and the forgotten. With no infrastucture they have lost their ability to survive on their own. The biggest challenges of the day are the most basic needs of food, water and shelter. The people that amaze me the most are the people that are more concerned with providing for their loved ones through self sacrifice. To put $500 cash into a situation like this may not solve their problems but get them through the week with the feeling that we are together and that someone cares. Because we are a small group it is easier for us to go to the source and make quick decisions. They do not come to us and they do not stand in lines, Pedro is going out and finding them, the most defeated, the people that don't ask, the people that just find a way to get through. To date we have helped over 30 families.
The goal of "HELP PUERTO RICO" is to reach $50,000+ and allocate the cash proceeds directly to those that need it the most.
Our mission has zero administration costs. The "Go Fund Me" provider will charge 8% of the funds you donate but past this, 100% of your donations will be put directly in the hands of someone in need. They will not come to us, we will find them.
