Please help our 2 championship Robotics teams from Medellin, Colombia -- one all girls -- come to America this May to participate in the worldwide RoboRAVE competition in Albuquerque, New Mexico. These kids from communities with few opportunities competed against some of the best public and private schools in the region for the honor to represent Colombia.

One of our teams, the Little Engineers is all girls, 12-13 years old, with a female coach. What a statement of female empowerment! Our team Digiminds has 3 boys and 1 girl, ages 10 and 11. This trip has been three full years of effort and discipline that has fostered creativity, complex thinking, teamwork and problem solving. Through our robotics clubs these kids have learned how to do everything from coding to making a light sensor to building their robots. They also learn teamwork and respect.

For kids who have rarely been down the mountains surrounding Medellin, this is their chance to shine in worldwide competition. Even if they don't win this will be a formative experience they will never forget!

The Marina Orth Foundation was founded in 2005 by Maureen Orth, a former Peace Corps volunteer in Colombia, which now serves nearly 8,000 kids in 21 schools around Medellin, with leading-edge programs in technology, STEM, leadership, English and teacher training. We start coding in the 3rd grade and sponsor robotics teams. The dream has always been to educate our students for the 21st century.

$25 pays for two meals per day for one child
$35 pays for one team member in double room for four in Albuquerque
$55 pays for one team member to have a trampoline picnic there
$160 pays for one visa to enter the United States
$235 pays for one round trip ticket from Los Angeles to Albuquerque

Donations over $150 will receive an autographed photo of our teams, an invitation to visit our work in Medellin and the first 25 donors will receive samples of delicious Colombian coffee.

Donations over $235 you can tour one of our schools and see our work first hand. You must get there on your own.  The first 10 donations of $235 will receive a colorful handmade Colombian "mochila" (shown below) and the next 25 will receive samples of Colombian coffee.

Our all-girls team the "Little Engineers" are international robotic champions!

Thank you, you got us there!

The RoboRAVE 2018 competition ended this weekend and our girls won first place in the middle school category, beating boys teams from China, Japan, India, the US and Mexico.

This is an amazing accomplishment.

We also want to congratulate our other great team, Digiminds, who were the youngest group in their category. They also made the finals and placed 7th out of 31 teams. They taught a thing or two to the older kids.

Thank you. It was because of your generosity these deserving children were able to travel much farther than just from their “comunas” that cling to the mountains above Medellin. They not only got to experience their first plane ride but also visit the Albuquerque Zoo, the Explorer Science Museum where they rode the high-wire bicycle; the Natural History museum where they got to see dinosaur fossils and learned the science behind a dam.

They also visited and met children from Hayes Middle School, a STEM school in Albuquerque, play in a waterpark and have a picnic.

From the bottom of my heart and theirs, I thank you for donating to this campaign which made their dreams come true. These deserving children are now living proof of the mission of the Marina Orth Foundation: to create kids who can successfully compete in the 21st century anywhere in the world.

If you would like to help make more dreams come true you can make another donation here.
