Hi

I’m Ritch, Thank you so much for clicking through and visiting my donation page.

If you’ve got this far, I’m guessing you have a fair idea of what I’m planning to do this year.  My hope is that in participating in this huge personal challenge, doing something that I love, I can at the very least raise some awareness of the plight of Spanish hunting dogs like ours and maybe even try to raise some funds to help out the rescue organisations who do fantastic work both in the UK and in Spain helping pups like ours to a life of love, safety and comfort on their forever sofas.

The 3 organisations I am very passionate about raising funds for and who have each played their part in our dogs Mr Spencer and Miss Olive arriving to stay safely with us are:

Starfish Dog Rescue  - A small UK  based organisation that works closely with Barney's Dog Rescue in Spain.  Starfish  help people who are no longer able to keep their pets and will find alternative homes for them.  They also take in abandoned and unwanted pets and work at home and in Spain to find permanent loving homes for them.

Jalon Valley Arc  – A Small Spanish Rescue founded by Sally & Jayne, British expats who try to do their bit to help. Every year in Spain, thousands of hunting dogs (Galgos, like Mr Spencer and Podencos like Olive) are abandoned, abused, or even killed in horrific circumstances. The absence of laws regulating the breeding of these dogs, and the poor enforcement of animal welfare laws, means that at the end of hunting season thousands of ‘excess’ dogs are ‘disposed’ of by their owners. Rescues like Jalon Valley Arc are fighting massive odds to save as many dogs as they can. Unfortunately, these dogs have very little chance of getting a new home in Spain so they work with UK based rescues with space to get them to a safer place.

Kent Greyhound Rescue - KGR is a registered charity in South East Kent. They find new homes for around 100 abandoned and unwanted greyhounds, lurchers, Spanish and other sighthounds each year. They rehome throughout the UK.  It is not a rescue centre, which is open to the public, instead the dogs wait for their new homes at either private boarding kennels or, ideally, in foster homes throughout Kent. Volunteers do not get paid by KGR, they give their time and efforts because they love the dogs, are passionate about animal welfare and want to find the KGR dogs new homes. The majority work full time and manage the charity and the fundraising in their free time.

KGR receives no help or funding from the racing industry and KGR volunteers have the responsibility of fundraising every penny needed to ensure the charity can meet its financial obligations.

Most dogs arrive requiring an array of treatments.  Some dogs also need more help than others, but the average cost of rescuing each dog is about £500. Rescue only requests a £200.00 adoption fee.

My wife Chriss and I are extremely grateful to each of these organisations for all they do for the dogs and puppies like ours that would otherwise most likely end up in a kill centres (Perreras) or worse.  We intend to split any donations we receive, no matter how small, equally between our 3 chosen organisations.  Thank you so much in advance for anything you can contribute, it is hugely appreciated by us, the volunteers and ultimately the dogs and will make an enormous difference to us and them.

Thank you!
