Rebecca's Iron Will

This is the testimony of our mother, Rebecca Kane a wife, mother, sister, and friend to many!

In May of 2004 at the age of 42 she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer.  Following her diagnosis she went through surgery, chemo, radiation, and took daily estrogen hormone therapy blocking medication.
In June 2005 she made the decision to become surgically postmenopausal for continued treament.  At that time she underwent Oophorectomy which revealed two seperate foci of metastatic infiltrating carcinoma consistant with breast lesion.  At that point she continued with hormone therapy inhibitor medication....

 She came out a "survivor".

After 9 years of regular blood tests, CT scans, bone scans, and annual visits to the oncologist the unthinkable happend. On May 14, 2014  we found out that her breast cancer was back. This time it was stage 4. The cancer had moved its way into her bones. It is in her skull, sternum, humeri, clavicals, pelvis, spine, ribs and femur.

This time around the treatment plan  is different.  She goes to Scarbourough for monthly injuctions of Faslodex and Xgeva. One is a mega estrogen blocker while the other is a bone thickener.  Her recent CT scan showed that the cancer hasn't spread to any of her organs, making this a bone only disease.  She will continue with the mothly visits to her oncologist at the New England Cancer Center in Scarbourough.  She has  also been referred  to a naturopahtic doctor by her oncologist  to help build her immune system and help with the anemia.  They use chinese herbs and accupuncture, among other homeopathic remedies.    This treament is costly and is NOT covered by her insurance.

At this time we are asking for those of you out there to please help us help our Mom - who has been a Mom to all of our friends.  Although her children are grown she and our dad are looking forward to the next phase in life.    She is a woman whom we admire, respect and love to no end.  She has always been there with open arms to anyone who needs her.  She has a heart of gold and a faith that many of us only dream of having.  Both she and our Dad work full time jobs, she also has been blessed with the gift of Massage Therapy.  Ever since we can remember she has been sharing that gift with so many in her home and continues to do so as long as she can.
