School Supplies for Kids in Peru
DIY VOLUNTOURISM: Raw Travel is heading to Peru and we've made contact with Sascha, a German ex-pat and his Peruvian wife and family to show us some of the sites in and around Lima. Sascha and his wife have traveled the world pitching in to help people in ways big and small and in speaking to Sascha over skype, we came up with an dea for a give back in Pisco for our visit.
As in most developing countries around the world, school supplies (tuition, books, pencils, paper, bags, etc.) are not paid for by the government but by the families of the kids. Sascha's wife has a friend who works and lives in Pisco and knows of a small grammer school (about 100 students) in a poor area of Pisco where many of the children can't afford the most basic of school supplies.
We're going to illustrate the power of DIY Voluntourism
by raising some funds for some basic school supplies, which we'll film and then use the segment's broadcasts in one of the Peru episodes to raise awareness of DIY Voluntourism, Peru and hopefully more funds for these particular kids in Pisco.
Right now our needs are modest as we're going to purchase pens, pencils, paper and other basic supplies with the money raised.
Later, when the show is broadcast, we'll up the ante. Everyone who donates now will get a "Thank You" credit in the episode. No amount is too small as U.S. dollars go a long way in Peru.
The kids were still away on summer vacation, but some came in anyway along with some very dedicated teachers and just to get their gifts. Each and every student will begin school next month with a pens, pencils, paper and other basic school supplies for each and every student thanks to you.
This special "Give Back" segment will be part of Raw Travel 501 - "Peru's Southern Coast" episode which is going to kick off our 5th Season (Yep, can't believe it either) 9/30/17.
In the meantime, enjoy the photos and if you weren't able to donate, don't worry, your support and encouragement helps us keep doing what we're doing, so feel good about yourself... you deserve it! And besides, you'll get another chance to make a difference.. I promise. Big Mil Gracias to Sascha Rossaint who took these photos with his wife and her friends were able to coordinate this effort. I think the smiles on these faces are worth every penny don't you?
Great feeling to be able to help. Great show too!
So cool that you're helping the kids in Lima Peru in Pisco. Which by the way is a cool drink "Pisco sour". I've visited Lima with my ship the USS Makin Island and we did a couple community projects and the people there were just so friendly and the kids were laughing and having fun and you know unaware that they're lacking anything, but schools supplies are very important. it's always good to help the kids. I knew I liked you guys in Raw travel for a reason.... you got heart !!!
