#RanaStrong Medical Fund

This campaign is created on behalf of Rana Elyse Mashburn, my beautiful 17 year old daughter, a three-sport athlete, who should be enjoying her senior year of high school, but instead is in a battle for her life.

It is still difficult for me to believe Rana's life changed so quickly a month and a few days ago. It was an ordinary Monday when Rana became so exhausted she had skipped volleyball practice and turned down one of her favorite meals. Realizing something was amiss, we headed to ER at TC Thompson Children's Hospital. Within fifteen minutes, she was admitted with what was initially believed to be a ulcerative colitis flare. But two days later, after a collective-hive of doctors had examined her, a battery of tests were completed, hours of worry and a flood of tears, we learned Rana was gravely ill with HLH. You can learn more about HLH under the "About" tab on the Rana Strong Facebook page by following the link listed at the end of this post.

Brilliant doctors collaborated almost immediately to put a treatment plan in place to give Rana the best care possible to beat this life threatening autoimmune disease.

Since her diagnosis, Rana has had even more tests, seven chemo treatments, a zillion meds, several blood and platelet transfusions, three different bone marrow biopsies, a colonoscopy, CT scans, X-rays, oxygen therapy, and dozens of other sticks, pokes, and prods. In less than four weeks, she's lost her beautiful hair, more than a couple pounds, and most of her energy. Still, in the midst of all this, she has gained hundreds of prayer warriors sending up countless prayers to God on her behalf, a multitude of doctors and nurses who have treated her as their own, dozens of meals, loads of well wishes, many cards, texts, messages, and phone calls from friends and family, a closer walk with God and a stronger Faith than either of us has ever known.

Rana's progress, though difficult, is steady and purposeful. Her most recent lab numbers are: a white count of 600, a neutrophil count of 20 (dangerously low), a ferritin count of 23K, hemoglobin is 9.0, and platelets are 120K. Since starting this journey, Rana has spent the last 31 of 36 days hospitalized.

The timing of Rana's journey is in God's hands and the amazing doctors He put into place to deliver her care. We remain faithful because we know He is able, but the cost of Rana's care is extremely expensive and overwhelming, so this campaign makes it possible to invite you to help meet Rana's needs. It humbles me that so many have been asking how to support Rana. I would be truly grateful if you could make a donation to help us. No amount is too small. Setting a goal for this campaign is very difficult because Rana's medical expenses are expected to be ongoing for a very long time, but any gift donated will be helpful.

Please continue to pray for Rana's complete healing. We are grateful for the many blessings we've already received and we thank God for putting His soldiers to work in our lives, while circling us with angels during this difficult trial.
