RALLY AGAINST VETERAN HOMELESSNESS–
Help Steven Live in a Skilled Nursing Facility
Steven is an 80-year-old Marine Corps, Korean War era veteran residing in Santa Fe, New Mexico, who is in an immediate situation and now on the verge of homelessness again.

Steven has been homeless in the past, but for the past seven years he has been taking care of an 83 year old woman who is seriously disabled. In exchange for his help, he has been provided a room in her apartment. His client is aging quickly, and as much as Steven cares greatly about his work, it’s becoming too much of a burden on his own health, as he has recently been diagnosed with Dementia himself. This situation is rapidly becoming more urgent as Steven is once again at serious risk of becoming homeless when either his client passes away or he becomes too sick to perform his caretaking duties. This, despite not only his service to our country but his dedication to helping his client for the past seven years.
Steven has applied and been accepted to move into the Homelake Veteran’s Home in Monte Vista, Colorado. The home requires the first two months rent to be paid in advance. This amount is $2,500. Once moved in, funding will be secured by the veteran’s home for the ongoing monthly costs to live there. Because his situation does not fit into any of the existing programs for assistance, and without $2,500, he has absolutely no options to live there. This is why a group of homeless organizations and advocates have come together on Steven’s behalf to ask for your help. Any financial assistance will matter now as the situation is urgent, and there is a great possibility that he will become homeless; Steven has worked so hard to prevent this from happening again.

Despite the stress and urgency of his situation, as well as his own declining health; Steven has a gentle presence, and is quick to share a story or joke. He recounts fondly upon his military service, his days as a chef, baker, and cake decorator, and is quick to smile.
Please help Steven in any way that you can as after giving so selflessly in his life, he is now in need of your help. They say “it takes a village”, and every time that we can come together to prevent veteran homelessness is a worthy action. Thank you!
