Who We Are

RV United is a women’s soccer club in Khayelitsha, South Africa.  Like Barcelona’s motto, “more than a club”, RV United is much more than a soccer club. RV United is a community of talented female leaders and change-makers connected by their love of soccer and commitment to using sport to help transform the lives of young girls and women.

What We Do

RVU takes a holistic approach to player development.  Our mission is to enrich the lives of women and girls by providing them a positive and elite football experience, supportive community, and the skills and opportunities they need to thrive in football and life.  There are many physical and mental benefits of playing sports but we can also use sport to develop other aspects of a young woman's life. RVU focuses on the development of football skills on the pitch, as well as life skills, academic enrichment and job skills support off the pitch.

While we have the capacity to perform on the pitch, we really need some support to continue our work off the pitch. In 2019, RVU hopes to be able to continue running all of our programs while also expanding our work to include implementing a soccer life-skills curriculum for primary school girls in Khayelitsha.

How You Can Help

As a registered 501(c)3 in the United States and Voluntary Association (VA) in South Africa, RV United relies entirely on grants we receive from various organisations, both local and foreign, and generous donations from individuals LIKE YOU!

100% of all donations made to RV United are invested in the team, tax deductible and secure. Please consider supporting RV United's Football Development and Girls Empowerment programs such as:

Health & Life Skills Curriculum: With enough support from people like you, RVU hopes to develop our own soccer-based life skills curriculum that we can implement in primary schools. With our senior players acting as peer mentors to their younger players and girls interested in playing soccer, we can use the sport to attract young girls at a critical time in their lives and help develop mental health and wellbeing.

Academic Enrichment: Attending public schools in the township of Khayelitsha leaves little opportunity for our players once they graduate from high school. We hope to level the playing field a bit by hiring a certified teacher to come run tutoring sessions, where we focus on Maths and English, twice a week for our Junior Development Team players.

Professional Development: Unemployment in South Africa is a huge issue, especially for youth. Nearly 40% of youth between the ages of 15-34 are unemployed. RVU's goal is to have 100% of our Senior Team players either employed or in university, and provide job skills training for our Senior Team members. We do this by supporting our players with the admin of job applications (writing CVs, obtaining police clearances, etc.), conducting job skills training programs, mock interviews and literally taking them to interviews.
