Pokemon Go Gives Back to DT Park

Donation protected
Downtown Park in Bellevue, Washington is a fantastic place to play Pokemon Go!

We and MANY other Pokemon Go players really love collecting Pokemon in Bellevue’s Downtown Park.  It’s a safe place to play with several Pokestops and you never know which Pokemon will be lurking by the fountain or along the canal.  There are hundreds of us at the park hunting Pokemon each day.  The crowd on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons are especially large.

While the construction of the new playground, parking areas, and pond have impacted Pokemon Go play, we players have also made a huge impact on the park.  The picture above was taken in April of 2016.  You can see how lush and green the park usually looks.

Lately, with such heavy use by Pokemon Go players, the grass in Downtown Park is having a hard time recovering.  Living near the park and visiting it several times a day with our dog (and playing Pokemon Go with my kids), I’ve seen the quick decline of the lawn.  Bellevue Parks Department is out working on the grounds almost daily in the early morning, but with the foot traffic that the park is seeing every day/evening, the grass is just not able to recover.

You’ll notice that most of the grass along the circle path on the east side of the park is brown and dying or completely worn away to dirt.  Compare that to the same area on the west side behind the construction fence and you can see how we are negatively impacting this beautiful park.

In the spirit of the game that is pushing us to get outside and enjoy our community, I think we should give back and help return Downtown Park to it's previous beautiful green.

Would you please consider making a donation to help bring the park’s grass back to its former beauty?

If each player who has used the park gave a few dollars, I think we could easily meet this goal.

*The amount requested is the actual cost provided by the Bellevue Parks Department to renovate the damaged turf at Downtown Park: $12,500.  All funds donated will go directly to the Parks department to restore the damaged turf. You can see my initial request and the park's response here:
