Pio & Diana's Milan Living Expenses

Donation protected
Pio and I are in Milan for an undetermined amount of time while he recieves treatment for stomach and liver cancer.  This fund is a way that anyone who wishes to help us with our living expenses during this time can do so.

I don't like asking for money—money that we all know I am not going to pay back.  You work as hard for your money as I do for mine, and you need yours as much as I need mine, so I don't like to imply that you should just give me some of it.  But this seems like an appropriate time to create a way for anyone who WANTS to give a gift to do so easily.  If you’ve been thinking, “I would really like to send Diana and Pio some money,” well now you can.

We have some income for sure through the end of August—after that, greater uncertainty begins.  I will do some writing for my boss in Tamarindo, so that will produce some income.  I am setting up a profile on Upwork, advertising my abilities as a Spanish/English translator.  That has the possibility of bringing some income.  One of my sisters-in-law mentioned that when the school year starts, I may be able to earn some money doing English conversation classes with students who need to improve their spoken English.  So, there are possibilities.  None of them are guarantees, and all of them are going to need to fit around my non-wage-earning positions as housekeeper, cook, nurse, personal shopper, and public relations manager.  Thus, I am open to help.

What the money is for?  Fair question.  Our rent is about $350 per month.  My cell phone is about $12 a month.   It costs about $4 per person to get downtown and back on public transportation, so multiply that by X.  There’s food, and all the other things you buy at the supermarket like shampoo and cleaning supplies.  There are clothes, which will be a bigger expense as the weather changes.  Etcetera.

This may go on for a few months or for a few years.

Go Fund Me requires that I set a "goal" for how much money I want to raise. I don't have a goal, just a need. I chose the number $12,000 because it represents what I expect will be a year's living expenses.  If I say I need $500 and I get it, then the campaign is over and I have to make a new one. So I took a shot-in-the-dark guess at what we might need for a whole year.  I fully expect to earn some of it; where the rest will come from, time will tell.
